Lesena vrstna hiša v različnih podnebjih

Opis: V diplomski nalogi raziskujemo optimizacijo lesene vrstne hiše v treh različnih evropskih podnebjih. V teoretičnem delu naloge bomo opredelili energijsko varčno gradnjo v Evropi, s poudarkom na orientaciji in sestavi ovoja stavb. Dotaknili se bomo tudi posameznih podnebij, v katera bomo kasneje, v praktičnem delu postavili stavbo. V praktičnem delu bomo analizirali hišo, ki je bila v soavtorstvu s Filipom Jakobom Frasom, Natašo Suhadolnik in Filipom Špiljakom oblikovana pri predmetu Lesene energetsko učinkovite stavbe in jo optimizirali za tri različna podnebja. Ponovno bomo spremembe uvajali predvsem na področju orientacije objekta in sestavi ovoja.

Saponification reaction system

Opis: The saponification of an aromatic ester with an aqueous sodium hydroxide was studied within a heterogeneous reaction medium in order to determine the overall kinetics of the selected system. The extended thermo-kinetic model was developed compared to the previously used simple one. The reaction rate within a heterogeneous liquid-liquid system incorporates a chemical kinetics term as well as mass transfer between both phases. Chemical rate constant was obtained from experiments within a homogeneous medium, whilst the mass-transfer coefficient was determined separately. The measured thermal profiles were then the bases for determining the overall reaction-rate. This study presents the development of an extended kinetic model for considering mass transfer regarding the saponification of ethyl benzoate with sodium hydroxide within a heterogeneous reaction medium. The time-dependences are presented for the mass transfer coefficient and the interfacial areas at different heterogeneous stages and temperatures. The results indicated an important role of reliable kinetic model, as significant difference in $k_La$ product was obtained with extended and simple approach.

Calorimetric insight into coupling between functionalized primary alkyl halideand vinylic organocuprate reagent

Opis: The first calorimetric study of coupling between organocuprate, derived from Grignard reagent (vinyl magnesium chloride), and primary alkyl halide (e.g. (S)-ethyl 3-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-4-iodobutanoate) has been conducted. This transformation is paramountly important for efficient preparation of (R)-ethyl 3-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)hex-5-enoate – a key lactonized statin side chain precursor. The results obtained give thorough calorimetric insight into this complex low-temperature synthesis as well as a new understanding of the suggested reductive elimination of the final intermediates in the coupling reaction. Namely, the surprising unexpected spontaneous three-step exothermal event has been observed during controlled progressive heating of the mixture of the final intermediates to the room temperature. This phenomenon confirms that coupling between functionalized primary alkyl halide and vinylic organocuprate reagent is not a simple $S_N2$ substitution reaction. The presented study provides among others the first reported values of reaction enthalpies and corresponding adiabatic temperature rises of reaction mixture for all exothermic events that occurred in the (R)-ethyl 3-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)hex-5-enoate synthesis. The obtained results ensure consequential thermal process safety knowledge which can be incorporated into safe process scale-up as well as design of reactor system with sufficient cooling capacity for industrial production of (R)-ethyl 3-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)hex-5-enoate. Moreover, the results provide a basic guidance for other organocuprate coupling reaction systems.

The use of water atomisation for the production of frits

Opis: The production of powder materials from melts is usually done by atomisation. In our research two different frits were successfully produced using water atomisation technique. An overall assessment of the powders showed that the sizes of particles and their morphologies are determined mainly by the chemical compositions of the frits and atomisation parameters. The sizes of the particles depend on the viscosities of the frits, which is governed by the melt superheating during the experimental trials, orifice diameter and interactions between droplets and particles during additional stages after primary atomisation, which were controlled by water pressure. The morphologies of the particles depend on the relationships between the times of solidification and sphereoidisation and on the interactions between the particles.

Enodružinska nizkoenergijska hiša ob gozdu

Opis: Projektna naloga se nanaša na načrtovanje nizkoenergijske enodružinske lesene hiše ob gozdu na terenu z naklonom. Zamisel je bila, da se hiša poveže z naravo, kar je doseženo z veliko zastekljeno površino, ki omogoča pogled na naravo. Lesena konstrukcija poševne strehe je z notranje strani vidna, kar prispeva k naravnem in toplem občutku v prostoru.

Aplikacija odprtokodne knjižnice za optično prepoznavo znakov na operacijskem sistemu Android

Opis: Magistrska naloga obravnava odprtokodno knjižnico Tesseract za optično prepoznavo znakov (OCR, optical character recognition) na operacijskem sistemu Android. Podane so osnove in pregled aktualnih raziskav na področju optične prepoznave znakov. Raziskave so usmerjene v: a) prepoznavanje ročne pisave, b) samostojne aplikacije na mobilnih napravah, c) delovanje v realnem času v kombinaciji s prevodom, d) večjezične aplikacije in e) strojno učenje. Razlogi za odločitev za uporabo knjižnice Tesseract so: odprta koda, najboljši rezultati pri neodvisnih merjenjih in prilagojenost za operacijski sistem Android. Kot razvojno orodje je bil uporabljen Android Studio zaradi enostavnosti uporabe, ugodne krivulje učenja, možnosti uporabe čarovnika in močnih orodjih za razhroščevanje. Razvita rešitev je aplikacija za operacijski sistem Android 5.0 Lollipop, ki uporablja API 21. V letu 2016 bi razvito aplikacijo lahko uporabilo približno 40,5% naprav. Aplikacija deluje popolnoma avtonomno, čas prepoznave je pod eno minuto. Rezultati testiranja so pokazali, da v slabih svetlobnih pogojih, kot je na primer slika plinskega ali električnega števca, dobimo zelo nizko stopnjo prepoznanih številk. To stopnjo je možno povečati z dodatnim treningom aplikacije, vendar so tudi tu pomembne omejitve.

The first translations of Leatherstocking tales in Slovene

This article surveys briefly the first translation of the series, by highlighting the domestication and the foreignization procedures which were applied to make the books accessible for the target audience. Secondly, it discusses the interplay of domestication and foreignization with regard to the forms and functions of proper names.

Leatherstocking tales: 20th century Slovenian translations

By analysing the domestication and foreignisation procedures, it uncovers how these translations testify to the narrowing of the gap between Slovenian and American cultures. The notes in particular are highlighted since they are revealing also about the importance of each translation for Slovenian cultural context.

A kinetic study on drinking water denitrification using a membrane bioreactor

Opis: This study determines the basic parameters of Monod kinetics for microbial growth within a membrane bioreactor using the Zenon ZeeWeed 10 MBR system. The influent nitrate concentration was kept at 70 ± 2 mg L-1 NO3ˉ. During the experiments a constant concentration of activated sludge was maintained at approximately 0.76 g L-1 under anoxic conditions. Sucrose was added to the activated sludge as a carbon source. The Monod kinetic parameters were calculated by numerical interpolation, by considering experimental data. The maximum specific growth rate of the biomass was determined to be 0.31 h-1, half-saturation constant 5.4 mg L-1, and yield coefficient 0.35 mg biomass mg-1 COD. Afterwards, a dynamic simulation was performed within the calculated parameters. The dynamic concentration profiles for substrate and biomass were determined at different dilution rates within the range of 0.8 to 5 d-1.
