Organisational culture and organisational citizenship behaviour : the dark side of organisational politics
Amro Al-Madadha, Ahmad Samed Al-Adwan, Fida Amin Zakzouk, 2021

Opis: Background and Purpose: Organisational politics can have a substantial negative effect on employees’ performance, however many organisations still do not pay attention to this organisational behaviour. In our study, we aim to examine the relationship between organisational culture and organisational citizenship behaviour through how employees perceive political behaviour within organisations. Methods: Convenience sampling technique has been employed, quantitative data were collected from 532 employees in the Jordan banking industry via online surveys. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was employed to test the hypotheses of the study. Results: Analyses showed that organisational culture within the banking industry has an effect on how employees perceive political behaviour. A negative perception of political behaviour by employees, in turn, has a negative influence on employees’ citizenship behaviour. These findings answer previous calls to investigate the destructive effect of organisational politics on employee outcomes. Conclusion: Organisations should pay more attention to the destructive effect of organisational politics and try to minimise such behaviour. Organisational citizenship behaviour, in contrast, benefits organisational performance, and the enhancement of this is recommended through the implementation of more effective policies and strategies.

Development and characterization of novel ultra-high performance concrete with superhydrophobic and self-luminescent properties
Ahmad Rizwan Mumtaz, 2024, doktorska disertacija

Opis: This study explores the potential of using basalt reinforced UHPC by incorporating simulta- neously self-cleaning and self-luminescent features, paving the way for sustainable advancements in civil engineering. New green formulations of UHPC were developed by integrating supplementary cementitious materials and optimizing water to the binder ratio, followed by using basalt fibers to enhance strength and ductility. The fabricated samples with high particle-packing density exhibit sufficient workability and compressive strength up to 136 MPa, and, when incorporating basalt fibers, a notable reduction in brittleness. The inner microstructure of basalt fibers was observed to be smooth, homogeneously distributed, and well adhered to the UHPC matrix. To ensure the desired long-lasting visual appearance of decorative UHPC and reduce future maintenance costs, a time-effective strategy for creating a light-emitting biomimetic surface design was introduced. The samples exhibit high surface roughness, characterized by micro to nano-scale voids, displaying superhydrophobicity with contact angles reaching up to 155.45◦. This is accompanied by roll-off angles decreasing to 7.1◦, highlighting their self-cleaning features. The self-luminescence feature showcased intense initial light emission, offering a potential energy-efficient nighttime lighting solution.

Risk factors for systemic reactions in typical cold urticaria : results from the COLD-CE study
Mitja Košnik, Dejan Dinevski, Simon Francis Thomsen, Daria Fomina, Elena Borzova, Kanokvalai Kulthanan, Raisa Meshkova, Dalia Melina Ahsan, Mona Al-Ahmad, Jovan Miljković, Dorothea Terhorst, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background: Cold urticaria (ColdU), i.e. the occurrence of wheals or angioedema in response to cold exposure, is classified into typical and atypical forms. The diagnosis of typical ColdU relies on whealing in response to local cold stimulation testing (CST). It can also manifest with cold-induced anaphylaxis (ColdA). We aimed to determine risk factors for ColdA in typical ColdU. Methods: An international, cross-sectional study COLD-CE was carried out at 32 urticaria centers of reference and excellence (UCAREs). Detailed history was taken and CST with an ice cube and/or TempTest® performed. ColdA was defined as an acute cold-induced involvement of the skin and/or visible mucosal tissue and at least one of: cardiovascular manifestations, difficulty breathing, or gastrointestinal symptoms. Results: Of 551 ColdU patients, 75% (n=412) had a positive CST and ColdA occurred in 37% (n=151) of the latter. Cold-induced generalized wheals, angioedema, acral swelling, oropharyngeal/laryngeal symptoms, and itch of earlobes were identified as signs/symptoms of severe disease. ColdA was most commonly provoked by complete cold water immersion and ColdA caused by cold air was more common in countries with a warmer climate. Ten percent (n=40) of typical ColdU patients had a concomitant chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU). They had a lower frequency of ColdA than those without CSU (4% vs 39%, p=0.003). We identified the following risk factors for cardiovascular manifestations: previous systemic reaction to a Hymenoptera sting, angioedema, oropharyngeal/laryngeal symptoms, and itchy earlobes. Conclusion: ColdA is common in typical ColdU. High-risk patients require education about their condition and how to use an adrenaline autoinjector.

Selection on antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) as an efficient support for iridium-based oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst in acidic media
Ikhlas Ahmad Khan, Per Morgen, Sašo Gyergyek, Raghunandan Sharma, Shuang Ma Andersen, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Reducing the iridium content while preserving high OER activity is an important prerequisite for the progress of inexpensive anodic water splitting electrocatalysts in low pH medium. Here we report the effects of bulk and surface structures of antimony doped tin oxide (ATO) supports on the ATO supported Ir-based electrocatalyst’s activity for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in acidic media. Ability of the ATO supports to anchor the Ir nanoparticles, measured as the fraction of Ir species from reaction bath landed on ATO support (conversion efficiency; η c ), is found to be strongly dependent on its surface chemistry, characterized in terms of presence of surface oxygen groups (O surface ). Both O surface content and electronic conductivity of ATOs show strong influence on OER activity. In general, high conductivity and low O surface though low O surface may compromise η c content are preferred for high OER activity, . The optimal catalyst demonstrates superior OER activity of 777 A g 1 , 2.5 times that of the state-of-the-art commercial catalyst at 1.65 V vs. RHE. Further, the synthesized catalysts exhibit durability comparable to that of the commercial counterpart.

A new solution for shallow and deep tunnels by considering the gravitational loads
Mohammad Reza Zareifard, Ahmad Fahimifar, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: A new, elasto-plastic, analytical-numerical solution, considering the axial-symmetry condition, for a circular tunnel excavated in a strain-softening and Hoek–Brown rock mass is proposed. To examine the effect of initial stress variations, and also the boundary conditions at the ground surface, the formulations are derived for different directions around the tunnel. Furthermore, the effect of the weight of the plastic zone is taken into account in this regard. As the derived differential equations have no explicit analytical solutions for the plastic zone, the finite-difference method (FDM) is used in this study. On the other hand, analytical expressions are derived for the elastic zone. Several illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the performance of the proposed solution, and to examine the effect of various boundary conditions. It is concluded that the classic solutions, based on the hydrostatic far-field stress, and neglecting the effect of the boundary conditions at the ground surface, give applicable results for a wide range of practical problems. However, ignoring the weight of the plastic zone in the analyses can lead to large errors in the calculations.
