2. 37th Bled eConference - Resilience Through Digital Innovation: Enabling the Twin Transition : June 9 – 12, 2024, Bled, Slovenia, Conference Proceedin2024, proceedings Abstract: The Bled eConference, organised by the University of Maribor, Faculty of Organizational Sciences, has been shaping electronic interactions since 1988. The theme of the 37th conference is "Resilience through digital innovation: enabling the twin transition". The theme addresses the critical convergence of digital transformation and sustainability, in line with the European Commission’s top priorities and policy initiatives. At the conference, we aim to highlight the opportunities of digital technologies that can contribute to building organisational and societal resilience, with a focus on social and environmental goals. The papers in this conference proceedings explore a range of topics including the opportunities and challenges of the twin transition, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence and data science, decision analytics for business and societal changes, digital innovation and business models, restructured work and the future workplace, digital health, digital ethics, digital education, smart sustainable cities, digital consumers, and the digital transformation of the public sector.

3. Strategic transition to sustainability : a cybernetic modelTjaša Štrukelj, Petya Dankova, Nomi Hrast, 2023, original scientific article Abstract: As the importance of the transition to sustainable development is increasingly recognised by individuals, organisations, and society as a whole, there is a growing need to examine its impact at micro-, meso-, and macro-levels. There is an urgent imperative to ensure the sustainability of growing economic inequalities, a degraded environment, and people living in uneven conditions in different societies. The authors, therefore, highlight the strategic role and essential contribution of organisations, and universities/higher education institutions in particular, in achieving sustainable development and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Universities/higher education institutions play a key role in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, and they form the crucial architecture of contemporary practices in national economies and beyond. Policy makers, university/higher education institution governors, managers, and professors shape students and create new social contexts, and these must be oriented towards sustainability. This paper aims to explore the strategic role of organisations, in particular, universities/higher education institutions, as a key link between personal and social responsibility and, thus, as a powerful enabler of sustainable development. The authors examine the strategic transition to sustainability of two higher education institutions, the University of Maribor and the University of Economics—Varna, and conduct a qualitative case study research to develop a cybernetic model of the university’s/higher education institution’s transition to sustainability, which reflects the organisation’s growing commitment to achieving the Sustainability Development Goals. The model includes seven successive stages: pre-awareness, awareness, focusing, implementation, reaching out, transparency and disclosure, and continuous improvement. The study shows that sustainable development, i.e., sustainability governance, management, and operations, are indispensable for implementing the strategic concept of sustainability in an organisation and for achieving the strategic transition to sustainability as explained in the proposed cybernetic model.

4. 32nd Bled eConference Humanizing Technology for a Sustainable Society : June 16 – 19, 2019, Bled, Slovenia, Conference Proceedings2019, proceedings of peer-reviewed scientific conference contributions (international and foreign conferences) Abstract: Bled eConference, organized by University of Maribor, Faculty of Organizational Sciences, has been shaping electronic interactions since 1988. Bled eConference is the oldest, most traditional and well renowned conference in the field with more than 30 years of tradition. The theme of this year’s 32nd conference is dedicated to “Humanizing Technology for a Sustainable Society”. In 2018, European Commission emphasized that in the future, competitiveness will be dependent on the ability to move towards sustainability, resource-efficiency and the ability to exploit the advantages of digital technologies. In the context of digital society, implementation of digital technologies to achieve higher efficiency and competitive advantage is insufficient. Society calls for different economy models; more responsible, righteous and less exploitative. In this year’s conference, we address various aspects of these challenges and provide directions and guidelines for organizations to meet and overcome these challenges on their way towards successful digital transformation. Themes covered in the papers of these proceedings are focused on: digital transformation; business model innovation; blockchain and social media; big data, data science, and decision support systems; e-health, digital wellness and wellbeing; new applications and organizational models; and novel approaches and cases in education in digital economy.

5. The relationship between sustainability-oriented innovation practices and organizational performance : empirical evidence from Slovenian organizationsMatjaž Maletič, Damjan Maletič, Jens Dahlgaard, Su Mi Dahlgaard-Park, Boštjan Gomišček, 2014, original scientific article Abstract: Background and Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to empirically analyse the effects of sustainability-oriented innovation practices on the overall organizational performance. Further, this paper also aims to advance understanding of the measurement of corporate sustainability practices with the focus on innovation dimensions.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The study uses data obtained from a survey of 116 organizations encompassing both the manufacturing and service industries in Slovenia. Descriptive statistics were used in order to determine the level of sustainability-oriented innovation practices deployment. Exploratory factor analysis was applied to extract the underlying factors and to provide a basis for assessing their reliability and validity. In addition, regression analysis was used to quantify the effect of sustainability practices on the organizational performance.
Results: Data analysis result showed that sustainability-oriented innovation practices are significantly associated with organizational performance. Therefore, empirical evidence from this research confirmed the premise that building innovation competencies and integrating innovation activities in organization’s processes lead to performance benefits. This contributes to the debate about the potential for organizations to be sustainable and competitive.
Conclusion: The presented research on corporate sustainability provides important theoretical and practical insights on which the deployment of sustainability-oriented innovation practices are conducive to fostering a broader set of performance benefits. As such, managers should increase organizations’ capacity for innovation which can be beneficial in terms of performance implications and achieving sustainability goals

6. Knowledge - keystone of the modern economyVeselin Drašković, Radislav Jovović, Borut Jereb, Mimo Drašković, 2013, scientific monograph Abstract: Over the past 15 years, issues related to knowledge and knowledge management in companies and academic and research spheres have gained on importance. Knowledge is seen as an endless resource, a key element of innovations, competitiveness, economic growth and sustainable development.
The present volume examines theoretical and methodological concepts of knowledge management, the knowledge society and the new economy. Drawing on the idea of the knowledge paradigm the growing importance and the role of knowledge in the society, which depend on numerous institutional prerequisites, is emphasized. Moreover, attention is drawn to the need for implementing and spreading the knowledge, as a multidimensional and multidisciplinary notion, efficiently as well as to the need for a critical evaluation of the so-called imaginary knowledge.
The authors thus emphasize the need for the criteria of grading and knowledge transfer to be at the highest possible level. The field of knowledge leaves no place for improvisation, imperfection, and manipulation. This is the only ‘recipe’ for a successful future and a way out of any crisis.
