Healthy and entrepreneurial work environment for older employees and its impact on work engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic
Maja Rožman, Polona Tominc, Katja Crnogaj, 2022, original scientific article

Abstract: Managing older employees is a major challenge for companies, especially during COVID-19. Therefore, creating a healthy and entrepreneurial work environment as well as an inclusive culture within organizations is crucial for companies to maintain their sustainable advantage. The main objective of this paper is to develop a multidimensional model of a healthy and entrepreneurial work environment for older employees and determine its impact on their work engagement during COVID-19. Structural equation modeling was used for data analysis. The results show that workplace health promotion, entrepreneurial working conditions, and leadership lead to better well-being of older employees. In addition, entrepreneurial working conditions that promote intergenerational synergy lead to higher work engagement of older employees, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. For the elderly, the entrepreneurial work environment is therefore particularly important, even though entrepreneurship is mostly attributed to younger men. In addition, older employees’ well-being and the promotion of intergenerational synergy have a positive impact on their work engagement. The results will help companies better manage their older employees, shape their workplace, and increase the sustainable benefits of their businesses during and after the COVID-19 crisis.

Effectiveness of health promotion interventions in primary schools : a mixed methods literature review
Joca Zurc, Camilla Laaksonen, 2023, review article

Abstract: School-based health promotion interventions (HPIs) are commonly used in schools, but scientific evidence about the structures of effective interventions is lacking. Therefore, we conducted a mixed methods systematic literature review to recognize the HPI structures related to their effectiveness. Based on the inclusion criteria, 49 articles were selected for the literature review. The articles, published in 2011–2022, described 46 different school-based interventions conducted in 20 different countries. The average duration of the interventions was 12 months, and they were implemented mostly with an RCT study design (61.2%) and by targeting children (69.4%). Three main groups of interventions were identified and explained: (1) extensive and long-term interventions; (2) school policy-changing interventions; and (3) highly effective interventions. Effective school-based HPIs included multiple target groups, multiple providers with external experts, and an efficient duration and timing of follow-ups. The implications for educational research and school practice are presented. Evidence on the effectiveness of health-related interventions is still lacking and needs to be addressed in further studies.

Literary tourism and literary routes
Jasna Potočnik Topler, 2022, independent scientific component part or a chapter in a monograph

Abstract: This chapter presents literary tourism as another subtype of cultural tourism that enables further development of rural areas of Slovenia and Montenegro. The research is based on desk research, field work in Montenegro, also interviews with some tourism stakeholders were employed, and analysis of gathered data, materials, information and books. One of the objectives of the chapter is to shed a light on literary legacy of Ivo Andrić and Louis Adamič, two cosmopolitan authors who left their mark also in Montenegro and in Slovenia. As possible tourism products of rural destinations, literary routes are discussed.

Use of humor in video content for promotion of tourist destinations on YouTube
Marinela Ilikj, 2020, undergraduate thesis

Abstract: Advertisements are not the reason why we watch television, but they make an inevitable element of that routine. As humor gains popularity in promotional activities, the question of its benefits and risks becomes even more topical. Considering the expansion in the development of the tourism industry in recent years, the need for differentiation in the promotion of destinations should be conducted in a way that would be different from what has already been seen. This is one of the points where humor and tourism meet. As YouTube is one of the leading platforms for sharing video content, the study was based on analyzing the appearance of humor in advertisements aimed at promoting a tourism destination, uploaded on YouTube. Out of 11,015 advertisements uploaded on the official NTO’s channels, humorous elements were identified in 116 videos. Most frequently, humor types used were those deriving from the theory of incongruity-resolution and arousal safety, while humor disparagement theory, considered as aggressive, was least represented. However, different humor types are intended to achieve different effects. If the marketers’ goal is to underline a particular communication effect, they should then use the exact type of humor that is most likely to produce such an effect.

Questionable research practices : an introductory reflection on causes, patterns and possible responses
Gorazd Meško, Aleksander Koporec Oberčkal, 2010, review article

Abstract: Purpose: The purpose of this article is to discuss deviance in science due to increasing pressures on researchers and higher education pedagogues to be more effective and efficient in the ‘academic production’. Design/Methods/Approach: A literature review and reflection. Findings: The authors present a criminological view of deviance in science, discussing the perception of unsuitable scientific and research practices, questionable research practices, ethics and integrity in science, suitable behaviour of researchers in scientific work, and make recommendations for improving the ethics of scientific research in practice. The discussion on deviance in science is based on Merton’s principles of science (1973): the public presentation of knowledge and sharing of ideas, leading to common ownership of scientific discoveries, in which scientists disclaim their intellectual rights to their own insights in exchange for recognition and reputation. An impartial approach and universalism, in which truth is judged by impersonal, universal criteria, rather than based on race, social and economic status, sex, faith, or nationality and other subjective categories is presented and questioned. A non-profit/selfless orientation in which scientists are rewarded for selfless activities, and planned/organized scepticism – that all ideas must be tested, subject to rigorous scientific rules and public disclosure. The authors discuss these principles and connect them with scientific and research practice in Slovenia and abroad. Research limitations/implications: Research results are generalisable as deviance in science occurs in all cultures and have a global impact. Deviance in science is still an under-researched taboo topic and it needs to be discussed. Practical implications: A useful source of information for awareness raising and the improvement of quality of research work. Originality/Value: This paper extends understanding of possible deviance in science and factors related to such practices. The main value of this reflection is to facilitate understanding of factors of deviance in science and trigger a discussion on deviance among scientists.

Monitoring of quality in health care using indicators : challenges and possible solutions
Mircha Poldrugovac, Tit Albreht, 2017, original scientific article

Abstract: A number of stakeholders identified the need to revise the national set of quality indicators. The objectives of monitoring quality indicators that were determined in 2010 for the most part were not accomplished. Key reasons include: insufficient communication between stakeholders after the indicator set was introduced, insufficient definition of human and financial resources necessary for indicators' monitoring, lack of a thorough ICT structure that could support indicators' monitoring and weak leadership for these activities. A new performance indicators' set requires a clear identification of the objectives to be pursued and consequently of the theoretical framework for the indicators. Mostly it is necessary in addition to the identification of the challenges so far, to also recognize what are the possibilities to strengthen this area in the future.

Economic promotion of a small country : the case of Slovenia
Dejan Romih, Urban Šebjan, 2014, original scientific article

Abstract: This paper examines the economic promotion of a small country in the case of Slovenia, which is facing certain economic and social problems. Dejan Romih, 2014, original scientific article

Abstract: This paper discusses the importance of economic promotion for Slovenia and certain other European countries affected by the current economic crisis. Conceptual model of relationships among customer perceptions of components of insurance service
Urban Šebjan, Polona Tominc, 2015, original scientific article

Abstract: The objective of this study was to examine the conceptual model and to study the relationships between customer perceptions of the benefits of sales promotion, quality, adequacy of premium, and adequacy of information about the coverage of insurance services. The research model was tested with structural equation modeling (SEM) with a sample of 200 Slovenian users of insurance services. The results indicated that higher perceived benefits of sales promotion were associated with higher perceived quality of insurance services. In addition, higher perceived quality was associated with higher perceived adequacy of information about the coverage and the premium for insurance services. The study also found that higher perceived adequacy of premium was associated with higher perceived adequacy of information about the coverage of insurance services.
