The picture book and its role in preschool mathematics educationSanja Maričić, Mirjana Stakić, 2023, original scientific article Abstract: The paper examines the role of the picture book as a learning resource in preschool mathematics education and illustrates the possibilities for its application. The paper aims to examine whether preschool teachers use picture books in preschool mathematics education, what areas of mathematics they most use these for, and whether they recognize methodological advantages to their application. Results show that half of preschool teachers use the picture book as a teaching resource in preschool mathematics education, that it is mostly used to develop the concept of natural numbers and spatial relations, as well as that teachers clearly perceive methodological advantages. 2. Explaining preferences for illustration style and characteristics in early childhoodMarijana Županić Benić, Kristina Kalić, 2019, original scientific article Abstract: The purpose of this study was to explore how children perceive the style and characteristics of illustrations in picture books. It was found that six-year-old children preferred expressionist and surrealist illustrations, whereas four-year-old children preferred expressionist and romantic illustrations. They liked illustrations mostly because they were colorful, but also because they saw familiar motifs and actions in those illustrations. Children are also likely to prefer illustrations that are textile-shaped, illustrations that resemble children’s drawings, and naive, happy illustrations. These findings are consistent with previous studies of children’s preferences for illustrations and serve as a reference point for future studies. 3. Interactive learning environment for children in the beliefs of pre-school teachersMagdalena Grochowalska, 2014, other scientific articles Abstract: The following academic article is based on a PhD thesis that is currently being completed, titled Education and Qualifications of Elementary School Teachers in the U.S. State of Kansas and Slovenia for teaching in classes with immigrant children. The research study titled Integrating Multicultural Subject Matters into Teaching Strategies of Elementary School Teachers (The U.S. State of Kansas), conducted in 2007 based on a sample of 89 elementary school teachers in the U.S. State of Kansas, represents one aspect of assessing the adequacy of undergraduate education regarding multicultural subject matters for elementary school teachers in Slovenia and the U.S. (State of Kansas) as well as the qualifications of elementary school teachers of both countries for working with immigrant children. Despite the long-standing tradition of multicultural education in western countries, the research results for Kansas elementary school teachers showed a presence of significant discrepancies between the actual and optimal integration of multicultural subject matters. These results indicate that future undergraduate study programs will have to invest more time in developing multicultural skills and providing practical experiences for working in a diverse environment. 4. Advantages and disadvantages of information-communication technology usage for four-year-old children, and the concequences of its usage for the childrens' developmentJurka Lepičnik-Vodopivec, Pija Samec, 2012, original scientific article Abstract: Information-communication technologies (ICT) are a part of our world and we use them every day. They represent an important source of information about us and others, as well as about local and world events. Besides that, ICT can also be very attractive for pre-school children, who acquaint with them very quickly. This article presents advantages and disadvantages of ICT usage for a four-year-old pre-school child and its potential consequences for the child's development. The data was collected with the help of 130 parents. They were asked to fill out a questionnaire and share their opinions about their four-year-old children's usage of ICT at home. We found out that in the case of four-year-old children the usage of ICT has its advantages and disadvantages, and that the consequences of its usage (positive and negative) would be approximately the same.
