Research on the modelling and analysis of the penetration of renewable sources and storage into electrical networks
Eva Simonič, Sebastijan Seme, Klemen Sredenšek, 2025, original scientific article

Abstract: To address the growing integration of renewable energy sources and storage systems into distribution networks, there is a need for effective tools that can assess the impact of these technologies on grid performance. This paper investigates the impact of integrating residential rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems and battery energy storage systems (BESSs) into low-voltage (LV) distribution networks. A stochastic approach, using the Monte Carlo method, is applied to randomly place PV systems across the network, generating multiple scenarios for power flow simulations in MATLAB Simulink R2024b. The method incorporates real-world consumer load data and grid topology, representing a novel approach in simulating distribution network behaviour accurately. The novelty of this paper lies in its ability to combine stochastic PV placement with real-world load data, providing a more realistic representation of network conditions. The simulation results revealed that widespread PV deployment can lead to overvoltage issues, but the integration of BESSs alongside PV systems mitigates these problems significantly. The findings of this paper offer valuable insights for Distribution Network Operators, aiding in the development of strategies for optimal PV and BESS integration to enhance grid performance.

Assessment of harmonic distortion in school buildings equipped with grid-connected PV systems
Franjo Pranjić, 2025, professional article

Abstract: The integration of photovoltaic systems into power grids can impact power quality, particularly concerning voltage and current harmonics. This study investigates the power quality of a photovoltaic system integrated into the electrical system of an educational facility, focusing on harmonic distortion in both voltage and current. Comprehensive measurements were conducted across three phases and analysed according to the EN 50160 and IEEE 519 Standards. The results demonstrated that, while the voltage quality meets EN 50160 requirements consistently, indicating stable voltage levels, the current measurements revealed significant harmonic distortion. Notably, Phase 2 exhibited Total Harmonic Distortion values substantially above the acceptable limits, with Phase 1 and Phase 3 also showing elevated Total Harmonic Distortion. To address these issues, the study recommends the implementation of advanced harmonic filters and optimisation of inverter technologies. These measures are crucial for enhancing power quality, and ensuring compliance with the industry Standards in high photovoltaic penetration scenarios.

On the Wiener-like root-indices of graphs
Simon Brezovnik, Matthias Dehmer, Niko Tratnik, Petra Žigert Pleteršek, 2025, original scientific article

Abstract: In this paper, we examine roots of graph polynomials where those roots can be considered as structural graph measures. More precisely, we prove analytical results for the roots of certain modified graph polynomials and also discuss numerical results. As polynomials, we use, e.g., the Hosoya, the Schultz, and the Gutman polynomial which belong to an interesting family of degree-distance-based graph polynomials; they constitute so-called counting polynomials with non-negative integers as coefficients and the roots of their modified versions have been used to characterize the topology of graphs. Our results can be applied for the quantitative characterization of graphs. Besides analytical results on bounds and convergence, we also investigate other properties of those measures such as their degeneracy which is an undesired aspect of graph measures. It turns out that the measures representing roots of graph polynomials possess high discrimination power on exhaustively generated trees, which outperforms standard versions of these indices. Furthermore, a new measure is introduced that allows us to compare different topological indices in terms of structure sensitivity and abruptness.

Integrating carbon tax and subsidies : an evolutionary game theory-based shore power promotional strategy analysis
Tingwei Zhang, Cheng Hong, Tomaž Kramberger, Yuhong Wang, 2025, original scientific article

Abstract: Shore power represents one of the principal solutions for the green transformation within the port industry. It significantly aids in the reduction in carbon emissions from vessels while they are berthed in port, yet often necessitates an effective promotional strategy to foster its installation and utilization. Stakeholders including port authorities, ship operators, and local governments all play a crucial role in achieving this objective. This paper employs a tripartite evolutionary game model in conjunction with a system dynamics model to investigate the evolutionary responses of stakeholders when policy tools are applied, and consequently, to elucidate the dynamics of strategy effectiveness. In this context, six business scenarios are developed to ascertain the potential impacts of implementing subsidies and carbon taxes. The findings demonstrate that any singular strategy, whether a subsidy or a carbon tax, is inadequate for the successful advancement of shore power; on the contrary, a government-led, integrated, and dynamic reward–punishment strategy aids in stabilizing the inherent fluctuations within this game process. Moreover, the initial willingness of ship operators exerts a considerably greater influence than that of the other two stakeholders.

Razvoj nadzornih plošč za spremljanje e-izobraževanja v organizaciji
Aljoša Gostiša, 2025, master's thesis

Abstract: V organizaciji je zbiranje in analiziranje podatkov vse pomembnejše za optimizacijo poslovnih procesov in doseganje poslovnih ciljev.

Maximizing the power output and net present value of organic rankine cycle: application to aluminium industry
Monika Dokl, Rok Gomilšek, Lidija Čuček, Ben Abikoye, Zdravko Kravanja, 2022, original scientific article

Abstract: This study presents an integrated design and optimization of an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) for the recovery of waste heat from aluminium production. Non-Linear Programming (NLP) models were developed, with the objectives of maximizing electricity production and the Net Present Value (NPV) of the system. The models account for optimizing the operating conditions and changes in thermodynamic features of the system. The developed models are applied to a case study of Slovenian aluminium company where the performance of three different working fluids (R245fa, R1234yf and R1234ze) are compared. The optimization is performed considering different temperatures and prices of produced hot water and electricity, minimum approach temperature (DTmin), concentration of CO2 in flue gas and temperature and flowrate of flue gas. Results show that the selected working fluids for the proposed waste heat-based ORC system have the potential to substitute up to about 830 kW of electricity in a sustainable and economic manner. Out of the three working fluids considered, R245fa showed up to 7.9% efficiency of the ORC cycle and was identified as the best performing working fluid considering both economic viability and the amount of electricity produced by the system, however the refrigerant inherently has higher GHG footprint.
