Abstract: The scientific monograph titled Logistics and Management – selected topics is the result of a bilateral project, lasting from 2013 to 2015 and titled “Preparation of a joint scientific monograph in the field of logistics and management issued at the Faculty of Logistics in Celje and the Maritime Faculty of Kotor”. The project was managed by Professor Maja Fošner, PhD, from the Faculty of Logistics at the University of Maribor, and Professor Veselin Draskovic, PdD, from the Maritime Faculty of Kotor, Montenegro.
The main goal of the monograph is to give a comprehensive account of selected areas from the field of logistics and challenges in the development of logistics, such as risk management and supply chains, transport cost, competences in logistics, urban logistics, green logistics, seaport cooperation, logistics network optimisation, logistics in tourism, logistics in performance management, systemic logistics providers and solutions to problems of transportation task.
Wishing to offer a comprehensive presentation of various areas in the field of logistics, the authors of the monograph contributions, who participated on the project (Maja Fošner, Bojan Rosi, Borut Jereb, Marjan Sternad, Veselin Draskovic (ed.), Mimo Draskovic, Sanja Bauk, Senka Sekulac-Ivosevic), invited to cooperation also other researchers from the Faculty of Logistics and the Maritime Faculty of Kotor (Irena Gorenak, Matjaž Knez, Matevž Obrecht, Sonja Mlaker Kač, Tina Cvahte, Darja Topolsek, Drago Pupavac, Zeljko Ivanovic, Oleksandr Dorokhov, and Ludmila Malyaretz) who enriched the present monograph with their contributions.
The monograph is aimed at professional public and anyone interested in the field of logistics. It should also serve as a useful aid in the study of logistics.

Multi-objective synthesis of company’s supply-networks based on integration of renewable resourcesAnnamaria Vujanović

Abstract: The aim of this doctoral dissertation was to develop a general methodology for sustainable integration of company's supply networks into nearby regional networks by i) integrating renewables, thereby increasing company's energy self-sufficiency, ii) by performing multi-objective synthesis in order to obtain economically efficient and yet environmentally benign or even unburdening solutions, and iii) to perform dynamic and stochastic synthesis under uncertainties in dynamically changing market conditions in order to obtain more reliable and realistic solutions. The research work is directly interlinked with a large-scale European meat producing company Perutnina Ptuj d.d., which is located in the heart of Slovenia.
The aim of the first part was to integrate renewables into companies’ supply-networks at regional level in order to maximize the self-sufficiencies of their energy supplies. This concerns companies’ activities from the use of natural resources to supplying their final products to the customers being interlinked with their regional networks. A Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model has been developed for the integration of both the companies’ and surrounding regional supply-networks and the utilization of different types of renewables as sources for the companies’ energy supplies. The potential renewable energy sources, which are located within companies surrounding region are solar, biomass, organic and animal wastes. The result indicates that by sufficient integration of renewables into companies’ supply networks, profitable and yet energy self-sufficient solutions can be obtained.
The second part presents the multi-objective synthesis of a company’s supply-network by integrating renewables and accounting for several environmental footprints. A previously developed model for achieving energy self-sufficiency by integrating renewables into companies’ supply-networks has been extended for the evaluation of environmental impacts, such as energy, carbon, nitrogen, and water footprints. The achievement of an energy self-sufficient supply-network has been considered whilst significantly reducing environmental impacts. Direct (burdening) and indirect (unburdening) effects that form total effects on the environment are considered for the evaluation of environmental footprints. This approach identifies those alternative energy production technologies that are more profitable and environmentally more benign with significant unburdening capabilities. The results showed significant unburdening of the environment in terms of carbon and nitrogen footprints; however, higher burdening in terms of the water footprint.
The third part presents a multi-objective MILP synthesis of a dynamic supply-network under uncertainty applied to the company. The previously-developed multi-objective model for achieving energy self-sufficiency by integrating renewables into companies’ supply-networks has now been extended to account for the dynamic consideration of variable supply and demand over the year, for uncertainties related to products’ demand and sun radiation, and for multi-objective optimisation, in order to obtain the most sustainable company’s supply-network. The sustainable synthesis of a company’s network is performed regarding the integration of the renewables such as biomass and other wastes, and solar energy. The obtained solutions are those reflecting maximal profit, reflecting constantly-changing dynamic market conditions, accounting for several uncertain parameters, and protecting the environment.

Multicriteria optimisation in logistics forwarder activitiesTanja Poletan

Abstract: Logistics forwarder, as organizer and planner of coordination and integration of all the transport and logistics chains elements, uses adequate ways and methods in the process of planning and decision-making. One of these methods analysed in this paper, which could be used in optimisation of transport and logistics processes and activities of logistics forwarder, is the multicriteria optimisation method. Using that method, in this paper is suggested model of multicriteria optimisation of logistics forwarder activities. The suggested model of optimisation is justified in keeping with method principles of multicriteria optimization, which is included in operation research methods and it represents the process of multicriteria optimization of variants. Among many different processes of multicriteria optimization, PROMETHEE (Preference Ranking OrganizationMethod for Enrichment Evaluations) and Promcalc& Gaia V. 3.2., computer program of multicriteria programming, which is based on the mentioned process, were used.

Targeting energy generation and carbon footprint for waste management and processingPetar Varbanov

Abstract: Waste to Energy (WTE) processing carries a trade-off between energy extractionfrom the waste and the energy for waste management - collection, transport and treatment. Major performance indicators are the Primary Energy Savings (PES), Carbon Footprint (CFP) and especially the cost. This presentation analyses the significance of the factors in this trade-off introducing a new indicator - the Waste Energy Potential Utilisation (WPU). The results indicate that the impact of the logistics and energy distribution can be significant, and distributed WTE architectures can be good candidates for waste processing, subject to further economical and environmental conditions.

SYNTHESIS OF PROCESSES AND PROCESS SUBSYSTEMS FOR ENTIRE LIFETIMEAndreja Nemet

Abstract: Economically viable process designs should be, in addition to other criteria, profitable over their entire process lifetimes not only at the present time. An improved process design can be achieved by establishing an appropriate trade-off between product income, raw material, operating costs, and investment. The full lifetime of the processes and future prices have to be considered rather than optimising them on a yearly basis using current prices. Single-period optimisation and synthesis models for processes reflects current prices only. The prices can fluctuate rather quickly and the optimal solution may be very different from one year to the another. Therefore, the traditional superstructural synthesis approach applying a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model was upgraded: i) over time, by considering an entire lifetime, which can be described by a multi-period model and ii) the whole field of variation regarding uncertain future prices. A stochastic approach considering the statistical distribution of price projections over an entire lifetime was used on different case studies instead of the traditional deterministic approach accounting for nominal future price projection. The objective was the maximisation of the expected net present value of a process or the expected incremental net present value of different process subsystem.
The heat exchanger network has been one of the subsystem, which can significantly contribute to operating costs due to savings of external utility consumption. For this subsystem a deterministic and stochastic multi-period mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) synthesis models have been developed in order to account for future price projections. Considering higher energy prices gives rise to larger initial investments compared to solutions obtained with current prices. However, due to the uncertainties of utility prices' forecasts, retrofitting using an extension of HEN during future years of the lifespan might be a better strategy. The objective is to identify a design that is the most suitable for effective future extensions and preferably with the lowest sensitivity to energy price fluctuations, as there can be various designs featuring similar initial investment. The results supports that it is economically beneficial to consider future utility prices as the incremental investment is not only paid-off but additional savings are achieved.
Process-to-process Heat Integration can also significantly affect the trade-off between investment and operating cost. The aim of Total Site (TS) HEN synthesis was to develop a model synthesis for the TS that, besides many other important features, would also consider future utility prices. Two strategies for TS synthesis have been developed: i) sequential, when HI is performed within a process during the first step and then after a process-to-process HI has been performed, and ii) simultaneous, where the HI is performed within and between processes simultaneously. The second strategy can reveal additional opportunities for heat recovery that might not be identified when applying the first strategy. Comparison of the results obtained at consideration of current utility prices and forecasted utility prices indicates that is worth to account for future utility prices.
The separation processes also consume a significant amount of energy. The synthesis of a distillation column sequence integrated within its heat exchanger network was used as a case study for the separation of a multi-component stream into pure component products by considering future utility prices. This analysis has been performed in order to evaluate the magnitude of the influence of forecasted utility prices. It can be concluded that forecasted utility prices can be beneficial, however, the technical limits of the systems should be carefully observed.
The price fluctuation can also be observed for other prices not only utility prices, e.g. raw material cost, product price, etc

SYNTHESIS OF SUSTAINABLE BIOPROCESSES USING COMPUTER-AIDED PROCESS ENGINEERINGLidija Čuček

Abstract: This doctoral dissertation, which consists of four substantive wholes, presents several syntheses of sustainable bioprocesses using computer-aided process engineering. In the first part the synthesis of different integrated processes of ethanol production from the entire corn plant is presented. The synthesis of different processes is in the second part further extended to the simplified and more comprehensive synthesis of bioproducts in the whole production supply chain network. Synthesis is based on the generic optimisation model of biomass production and supply chain networks.
In the third part three methods for sustainable development assessment, suitable for multi-criteria optimisation, are presented: method of sustainability indexes, footprints and combined criteria, such as eco- and total profit. Methods are further upgraded with indirect effects in order to measure the unburdening the environment, associated with the use and replacement of environmentally-harmful products. Methods include the direct, indirect and total impacts on the environment.
In the last part the methodology for reducing a large number of criteria within multi-objective optimisation to a small number of representative criteria is presented. This method is presented on the case of environmental footprints.

Modeling of forming efficiency using genetic programmingMiran Brezočnik

Abstract: This paper proposes new approach for modeling of various processes in metal-forming industry. As an example, we demonstrate the use of genetic programming (GP) for modeling of forming efficiency. The forming efficiency is a basis for determination of yield stress which is the fundamental characteristic of metallic materials. Several different genetically evolved models for forming efficiency on the basis of experimental data for learning were discovered. The obtained models (equations) differ in size, shape, complexity and precision of solutions. In one run out of many runs of our GP system the well-known equation of Siebel was obtained. This fact leads us to opinion that GP is a very powerful evolutionary optimization method appropriate not only for modeling of forming efficiency but also for modeling of many other processes in metal-forming industry.

Predicting defibrillation success by "genetic" programming in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrestMatej Podbregar

Abstract: In some patients with ventricular fibrillation (VF) there may be a better chance of successful defibrillation after a period of chest compression and ventilation before the defibrillation attempt. It is therefore important to know whether a defibrillation attempt will be successful. The predictive powerof a model developed by "genetic" programming (GP) to predict defibrillation success was studied. Methods and Results: 203 defibrillations were administered in 47 patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest due to a cardiac cause. Maximal amplitude, a total energy of power spectral density, and the Hurst exponent of the VF electrocardiogram (ECG) signal were included in the model developed by GP. Positive and negative likelihood ratios of the model for testing data were 35.5 and 0.00, respectively. Using a model developed by GP on the complete database, 120 of the 124 unsuccessful defibrillations would have been avoided, whereas all of the 79 successful defibrillations would have been administered. Conclusion: The VF ECG contains information predictive of defibrillation success. The model developed by GP, including data from the time-domain, frequency-domain and nonlinear dynamics, could reduce the incidence of unsuccessful defibrillations.

Abstract: An intelligent manufacturing system is intended to produce one or more subjects that it is designed for in an optimal way. This means that it has to find a proper production process to produce the subject in an optimal way. The manufacturing system can be called "intelligent" when it is able to find applicable optimisation criteria upon its past experiences thus improving its performance in future. Therefore, an intelligent manufacturing system needs capabilities to store data and make decisions upon them. Such a "brain" can be established by a proper design of a technological database and its database management system (DBMS). Examining all constitutive parameters of a work operation a model of a production process organization can be made, which can serve as a basis for a suitable database design. In addition, an application programme that will check the existence and availability of work operations in the database has to be added to the DBMS. What remains are some optimisation criteria upon which we will choose an operation among suitable and available work operations. This task is fulfilled by a genetic algorithm optimisation technique that would consider work operations' data as parameters of optimisation and on this basis search the optimal one out of the set of available operation.
