Nanostructured materials, structures and mechanical properties, processing and applications
Peter Majerič, 2024, review article

Abstract: Nanomaterials are becoming an integral part of high-performance products and services. As technology advances, the possibilities for engineering components with nanomaterials are more numerous, taking advantage of the benefits that these materials have the potential to provide. Nanostructured materials have bulk dimensions with a structure that includesnanoscale features, and have been around for quite some time, hidden in everyday items. More recently, they have been made possible to be analysed and manipulated with increasingly sophisticated instruments and processes. This ability has made them more accessible, however, challenges still remain in the more widespread adoption of these materials for exploiting their advantages. The present paper outlines the position and emergence of nanostructured materials in the broader context of nanomaterials, examining their mechanical properties, production methods and applications.

The Graovac-Pisanski index of connected bipartite graphs with applications to hydrocarbon molecules
Matevž Črepnjak, Martin Knor, Niko Tratnik, Petra Žigert Pleteršek, 2021, original scientific article

Abstract: The Graovac-Pisanski index, also called the modified Wiener index, was introduced in 1991 and represents an extension of the original Wiener index, because it considers beside the distances in a graph also its symmetries. Similarly as Wiener in 1947 showed the correlation of the Wiener indices of the alkane series with the boiling points, in 2018 the connection between the GraovacPisanski index and the melting points of some hydrocarbon molecules was established. In this paper, we prove that the Graovac-Pisanski index of any connected bipartite graph as well as of any connected graph on an even number of vertices is an integer number. These results are applied to some important families of hydrocarbon molecules. By using a computer programme, the graphs with a non-integer Graovac-Pisanski index on at most nine vertices are counted. Finally, an infinite class of unicyclic graphs with a non-integer Graovac-Pisanski index is described.

Preparation of Au[sub]2S[sub]3 and nanocrystalline gold by sonochemical method
Matjaž Kristl, Mihael Drofenik, 2003, original scientific article

Abstract: We report a new synthesis of ▫$Au_2S_3$▫ by a sonochemical reaction between ▫$Au(CH_3COO)_3$▫ and S in decalin at room temperature in nitrogen atmosphere. When gold acetate is sonicated under similar conditions without the presence of sulfur, nanocrystalline gold is formed. The products were characterised by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscope and thermal analysis (IG and DSC). The synthesis procedure is substantially simpler than the previously reported methods.
