1. Targeted advertising and the (children's) right to privacy - remedies of ex-ante and ex-post regulationRok Dacar, 2024, independent scientific component part or a chapter in a monograph Abstract: This paper analyses how instruments of economic regulation can be used to protect the right to the protection of personal data, especially in relation to vulnerable societal groups, such as children. In this regard, it analyses the Bundeskartellamt’s Facebook decision that established an unprecedented connection between competition law and data protection law, as well as the Digital Markets Act, which imposes several positive and negative obligations on companies branded as “gatekeepers,” which could also increase the level of personal data protection. It is concluded that instruments of economic regulation can have a profound impact on data protection issues, although addressing them is not their primary goal. 2. The difference of managerial approach in more or less design-oriented companiesSanja Rocco, Aleksandra Pisnik, 2020, original scientific article Abstract: While the market orientation of companies has been thoroughly analysed, a review of the marketing literature indicates that there is significantly less research on Design Orientation, and especially on their relationship. This paper analyzes the variables of Design and Market Orientation on the basis of existing models and develops the measurement instrument for future research. The study also investigates the impact of managerial approach on the exploitation of design resources in the company. Two hypotheses are developed: the first on the DO-MO relationship, acknowledging the multiple dimensions of Design Orientation and the second on the difference in managerial approach between more and less design-oriented companies. The first, qualitative stage of the research served to re-examine the research constructs and variables, while an Internet survey was used in the second, quantitative stage, among managers and CEOs from Croatian companies. The design dimensions in our final model represented intermediaries between Market Orientation, managerial approach, and market outcomes. Results confirm that managers in non-design oriented companies differ from those in design-oriented companies by perceived design value. Managers’ and CEOs’ awareness of design, its value and potentials, are of great importance for design implementation and Design Orientation of a company as a whole, especially in SMEs. Managerial approach, according to results, has a direct effect on Design Orientation, but it also influences Market Orientation, both directly and indirectly, as well as business success. Findings of this study can have implications for scholars, as well as for managers in practice, especially in emerging economies, which lack research in Design Orientation. Future research should be expanded to other countries in the region. 3. Green sourcing: effects on supplier performance metrics in fast food restaurants in frontier marketsPaul Mukucha, Bongani E. Mushanyuri, Divaries Cosmas Jaravaza, 2021, original scientific article Abstract: Following the banning of expanded polystyrene packaging material, the fast food restaurant industry was serendipitously plunged into green sourcing initiatives for its packaging materials leading to heightened efforts on evaluating the suitability of various suppliers of green packaging material. This study therefore sought to assess the performance of selected suppliers on supplier performance metrics of total cost of ownership, quality of sourced material and delivery performance, in Zimbabwe’s restaurant industry. Methodology: Data was collected from senior procurement officers of 30 officially registered fast food restaurants in Zimbabwe. Each restaurant randomly selected 5 suppliers from their supplier lists. Each unit was asked to rate their 5 major suppliers of packaging material leading to an effective sample size of 150 suppliers. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to analyse data in AMOS. The five steps in SEM, that is: model specification, model identification, parameter estimation, model evaluation and modification were done. Findings: The findings in this study revealed that green sourcing leads to improved procurement performance in terms of total cost of ownership, quality of the materials sourced, and delivery performance. Implications for theory and practice: It was therefore recommended that practically the restaurant industry should explore various options of green packaging material ranging from recyclable and reusable plastic, paper, aluminium and steel material. Originality and value: Although the study was done in a single market, there is dearth in literature on green sourcing in frontier markets, of which the study provides empirical evidence from the restaurant industry in SubSaharan Africa. 4. To feed a town - the operation of the Maribor food market, 1910-2020Maja Godina-Golija, 2023, original scientific article Abstract: The Maribor food market which has been operating in the city center since the 13th century, is one of the city’s most important food providers. On market days, local people, farmers, urban and suburban gardeners, as well as food importers bringing in food from far away, have gathered at the market over many centuries. Here, the residents of the city discovered new, previously unknown foods. The paper will deal wtih the operation of the Maribor food market from 1910 to 2020, a period of time during which major changes in the supply of food to the urban Maribor population occurred. This approach enables us to gain a better understanding of the everyday menu of Maribor’s inhabitants at that time, as well as the changes that were occurring in food shopping tendencies and selling practices. The recent failed architectural renovation of the food market in Maribor has not only affected the contemporary vendors, but also the buyers, the visitors to the city, and the local chefs. 6. Lessons from remarkable fintech companies for the financial inclusion in PeruPatricia Vilcanqui Velásquez, Vito Bobek, Romana Korez-Vide, Tatjana Horvat, 2022, original scientific article Abstract: Financial inclusion, defined as the adequate access and usage of formal financial services to improve people’s lives, is a crucial area for the economic development of a country through its various angles. This paper analyzes the impact of selected FinTech companies on financial inclusion in their respective countries to obtain lessons of their business models and country environments that can help Peruvian financial inclusion. The selected FinTechs are M-PESA in Kenya, Nubank in Brazil, GCASH in the Philippines, and Easypaisa in Pakistan, which revolutionized the financial sector in their respective countries. However, a comparative study of their impact on financial inclusion in their respective country has not been conducted yet; therefore, the lessons obtained are helpful for the Peruvian situation due to their practical implications and because they raise possible areas for further and deeper research. The approach of this study considered a qualitative and quantitative method (to find a Pearson correlation between the percentage of the population of Country (A) that are users of FinTech (a) and the six selected demand-side indicators per country retrieved from the Global Findex Database) analysis to understand the results obtained. The results obtained indicate that M-PESA and GCASH, companies specialized in providing basic mobile money transactions such as remittances and withdrawals, did not impact the provision of other financial services such as savings or credit cards. In Easypaisa’s case, this company positively impacts the studied indicators, probably due to its original partnership with a microfinance institution. Regarding Nubank, despite its remarkable growth in the last years, the company does not affect financial inclusion in Brazil yet. Nonetheless, after its recent expansion to provide more financial services, future research could assess the impact of this company on Brazilian financial inclusion. 7. Are African stock markets efficient? : a comparative analysis between six African markets, the UK, Japan and the USA in the period of the pandemicRui Dias, João M. Pereira, Luísa Cagica Carvalho, 2022, original scientific article Abstract: The aim of this study is to test and compare the efficient market hypothesis,
in its weak form, on the stock markets of Botswana, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco,
Nigeria, South Africa, Japan, the UK and the USA from 2 September 2019 to 2
September 2020. This study is based on the following research question: has
the global pandemic (COVID-19) reduced the efficiency – in its weak form – of
African financial markets compared to the mature markets of the UK, Japan and
the USA? The results sustain the evidence that the random walk hypothesis is not
supported by the financial markets analysed in the period of the global pandemic.
The variance ratio values are lower than the unit, which implies that the returns
are self-correlated over time. A reversion to the average is also observed, with
no differences identified between mature and emerging financial markets. In
corroboration, the Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA) exponents show that the
financial markets present signs of (in)efficiency in its weak form, thus showing
persistence in the yields. This therefore implies the existence of long memories
validating the results of the variance using the Wright’s Rank and Signs Test
(2000), which prove the rejection of the random walk hypothesis. Keywords: African stock markets, efficient market hypothesis, mean reversion, random walk Published in DKUM: 19.06.2023; Views: 399; Downloads: 31

8. Priročnik za uvajanje standarda ifs global markets food v podjetjaAndreja Podnar, 2021, master's thesis Abstract: Standard IFS Global Markets Food je sistem zagotavljanja varnih in kakovostnih živil. Z njegovo pridobitvijo kupci enotno ocenjujejo proizvajalce živilskih izdelkov. 9. The drug market intervention approach to overt drug marketsEdmund F. McGarrell, Nicholas Corsaro, Rodney K. Brunson, 2010, original scientific article Abstract: Purpose:
The purpose of this research was to assess the impact of a strategic intervention intended to eliminate overt drug markets and their associated crime and disorder and to improve relationships between the police and local neighborhood residents.
Design/Methods/Approach:
The study included a process assessment of the nature of the intervention as well as an impact assessment based on trends in crime, calls-for-police-service and interviews with residents. The research occurred in the U.S. and examined a pilot program in High Point, North Carolina and subsequent implementation in Rockford, Illinois and Nashville, Tennessee.
Findings:
The paper presents a description of the intervention. Additionally, outcome data indicate that the intervention was related to reductions in crime and calls-forpolice service in all three communities. Raw declines were observed for violent, property and drug offenses with the declines consistently being statistically significant for drug offenses. Additionally, local residents described improved quality of neighborhood life and increased satisfaction with the police.
Research limitations/implications:
The results suggest that the so-called High Point Drug Market Intervention holds significant promise for addressing overt drug markets. However, the analysis is limited in that the comparison group is the citywide trend in crime as opposed to true comparison sites. Future studies utilizing quasi-experimental or experimental designs are needed to rule out potential rival explanations.
Practical implications:
The Drug Market Intervention appears to be a promising practice offering police officials a strategy for longer term impact on neighborhood safety and quality of life than has been the case with traditional crackdowns on drug markets.
Originality/Value:
This paper offers the evaluation results from three sites on a drug market intervention that has gained considerable attention, at least within the U.S. Keywords: drug crime, drug markets, evaluation Published in DKUM: 12.05.2020; Views: 1032; Downloads: 35

10. The panel VAR approach to modelling the housing wealth effect : evidence from selected European post-transition economiesAnita Čeh Časni, Ksenija Dumičić, Josip Tica, 2016, original scientific article Abstract: Following Friedman’s permanent income hypothesis and Ando and Modigliani’s lifecycle hypothesis, this paper empirically studies the role of house prices and income in determining the dynamic behaviour of consumption in selected European post-transition economies using the panel vector autoregression (PVAR) approach and quarterly data covering the period from the first quarter of 2002 until the second quarter of 2012. With the shocks being recognized using the customary recursive identification scheme, we found that the response of personal consumption to the housing wealth shock is initially positive, but short lived.
