Influence of socio-demographic profiles on attitudes toward sustainability and digitalization in logistics and supply chains
Lazar Pavić, Matevž Obrecht, Maja Rosi, 2024, original scientific article

Abstract: This study examines the impact of socio-demographic factors on attitudes towards sustainability and digitalization in logistics and supply chain management. Since a significant gap was identified in this field, study explores how company size, industry sector, and workforce diversity influence strategic planning and operational efficiency within these pivotal sectors of global commerce. The main novelty of the research is to set the roles of technological readiness and knowledge-based factors in shaping organizational responses to sustainability challenges and digital transformation opportunities. By analyzing the correlation between socio-demographic profiles and technological adoption behaviors, the paper aims to provide insights that could help organizations tailor their strategic initiatives to better align with diverse stakeholder needs, enhancing operational efficiency and promoting sustainable practices. This study seeks to fill the gaps in current research by offering a detailed exploration of how sociodemographic diversity impacts the adoption of innovative technologies and sustainability measures within the logistics and supply chain sectors. Results revealed that gender, sector, work position and company size contribute to different understanding and prioritisation of sustainability topics. Managers and team leaders are more focused towards sustainability than the rest of employees and logistics and supply chain sector prefer digitalization over sustainability.

Pathways to Alternative Transport Mode Choices among University Students and Staff—Commuting to the University of Maribor since 2010
Branka Trček, Beno Mesarec, 2022, original scientific article

Abstract: The study of commuting behavior at the University of Maribor (UM) was the subject of our research, which focused on the building complex of the four technical faculties (BCTF) and was based on the analysis of two questionnaire surveys (with 1057 and 462 respondents, respectively) and the transport policies implemented at the study site from 2010 to 2020. The research aimed to identify the factors influencing student and staff mode choice/shift over a decade period and to understand the weaknesses, strengths, and opportunities for improving sustainable mobility at the university. Since 2010, active commuting has predominated among students, while car use has decreased by 22%. Female students were 16% more likely to walk than their peers, while male students were 5% and 12% more likely to use bicycles and cars, respectively. Active commuting and car use by staff have not changed since 2010, and there was an insignificant difference between genders, 63% of whom used cars. Mode shifts were primarily related to trip origins, subsidization of bus use, availability or unavailability of free parking, and parking fees. Questionnaire responses were a powerful tool for finding the most effective interventions to manage transport at universities. The results also suggest that transport policies can be more effective if they are planned in coordination with housing policies.

Exploring social customer relationship management adoption in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises
Marjeta Marolt, Hans Dieter Zimmermann, Anja Žnidaršič, Andreja Pucihar, 2019, original scientific article

Abstract: With the emergence of social media, customer relationship management has undergone noticeable changes and gained a great deal of attention from researchers and practitioners in recent years. In this paper, we provide additional insights into how intensively business-to-customer micro, small and medium-sized enterprises adopt social customer relationship management. Based on the literature review and insights from interviews with six micro, small and medium-sized enterprise owners/managers, we developed a conceptual research model that integrates the antecedents, intensity of social customer relationship management adoption, and performance outcomes. For the intensity of social customer relationship management adoption, we applied process-based conceptualization consisting of the customer engagement process and customer data management process. Then we empirically tested a conceptual research model by using data collected in a survey of 119 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Slovenia. We found that not all antecedents are equally relevant to both processes of the intensity of social customer relationship management adoption. Additionally, we found that the intensity of social customer relationship management adoption has a positive effect on customer relationship performance. Based on these findings, we provide recommendations for further research and offer practical implications for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises considering social customer relationship management adoption.

Simulation-based algorithm for continuous improvement of enterprises performance
J. Pervaz, Nemanja Sremčev, Branislav Stevanov, Leo Gusel, 2024, original scientific article

Abstract: The printing company’s process performance depends on the possibility of providing requested products and managing the existing constraints of fixed machine layouts and high setup times between different products. Process inefficiencies caused by these factors reflect on throughput, production times, and resource utilization. The changes that improve one part of the production system usually affect other parts, needing additional optimization, and it is very useful to test the feasibility of proposed solutions with simulation before implementation. This paper presents a new algorithm for continuous improvement of enterprises performance, combining the lean approach with cellular manufacturing, and simulation. The performance is observed in a way that a certain setup influences the system in its entirety, rather than on a specific part of that system. The results are presented through models developed within the production optimization phase, representing various ways in which the continuous improvement algorithm can unfold. Each of them comes with its advantages and disadvantages, all intending to create more efficient production processes that generate less production waste.

Radiotherapy department supported by an optimization algorithm for scheduling patient appointments
Marcela Chavez, Silvia Gonzalez, Ruiz Alvaro, Duflot Patrick, Nicolas Jansen, Izidor Mlakar, Umut Arioz, Valentino Šafran, Philippe Kolh, Van Gasteren Marteyn, 2025, original scientific article

Abstract: Prompt administration of radiotherapy (RT) is one of the most effective treatments against cancer. Eachday, the radiotherapy departments of large hospitals must plan numerous irradiation sessions, con-sidering the availability of human and material resources, such as healthcare professionals and linearaccelerators. With the increasing number of patients suffering from different types of cancers, manuallyestablishing schedules following each patient’s treatment protocols has become an extremely difficultand time-consuming task. We propose an optimization algorithm that automatically schedules andgenerates patient appointments. The model can rearrange fixed appointments to accommodate urgentcases, enabling hospitals to schedule appointments more efficiently. The difference of managerial approach in more or less design-oriented companies
Sanja Rocco, Aleksandra Pisnik, 2020, original scientific article

Abstract: While the market orientation of companies has been thoroughly analysed, a review of the marketing literature indicates that there is significantly less research on Design Orientation, and especially on their relationship. This paper analyzes the variables of Design and Market Orientation on the basis of existing models and develops the measurement instrument for future research. The study also investigates the impact of managerial approach on the exploitation of design resources in the company. Two hypotheses are developed: the first on the DO-MO relationship, acknowledging the multiple dimensions of Design Orientation and the second on the difference in managerial approach between more and less design-oriented companies. The first, qualitative stage of the research served to re-examine the research constructs and variables, while an Internet survey was used in the second, quantitative stage, among managers and CEOs from Croatian companies. The design dimensions in our final model represented intermediaries between Market Orientation, managerial approach, and market outcomes. Results confirm that managers in non-design oriented companies differ from those in design-oriented companies by perceived design value. Managers’ and CEOs’ awareness of design, its value and potentials, are of great importance for design implementation and Design Orientation of a company as a whole, especially in SMEs. Managerial approach, according to results, has a direct effect on Design Orientation, but it also influences Market Orientation, both directly and indirectly, as well as business success. Findings of this study can have implications for scholars, as well as for managers in practice, especially in emerging economies, which lack research in Design Orientation. Future research should be expanded to other countries in the region.

A real-world information security performance assessment using a multidimensional socio-technical approach
Kaja Prislan Mihelič, Anže Mihelič, Igor Bernik, 2020, original scientific article

Abstract: Measuring the performance of information security is an essential part of the information security management system within organisations. Studies in the past mainly focused on establishing qualitative measurement approaches. Since these can lead to ambiguous conclusions, quantitative metrics are being increasingly proposed as a useful alternative. Nevertheless, the literature on quantitative approaches remains scarce. Thus, studies on the evaluation of information security performance are challenging, especially since many approaches are not tested in organisational settings. The paper aims to validate the model used for evaluating the performance of information security management system through a multidimensional socio-technical approach, in a real-world settings among medium-sized enterprises in Slovenia. The results indicate that information security is strategically defined and compliant, however, measures are primarily implemented at technical and operational levels, while its strategic management remains underdeveloped. We found that the biggest issues are related to information resources and risk management, where information security measurement-related activities proved to be particularly problematic. Even though enterprises do possess certain information security capabilities and are aware of the importance of information security, their current practices make it difficult for them to keep up with the fast-paced technological and security trends.

Preparation of international business negotiation strategies : competitive assessment aspects in the market power system
Kęstutis Peleckis, Valentina Peleckiene, Kestutis K. Peleckis, Giedre Lapinskiene, Zlatko Nedelko, 2019, published scientific conference contribution

Abstract: The existence of exclusive rights to produce or supply services means a monopoly. Often it is called a natural monopoly. Exclusive rights are granted for a long period of time, which should encourage major investments in infrastructure, the development of which is unlikely to occur without a guaranteed market. But sometimes exclusive rights are used in situations where there is no natural monopoly. Exclusive rights are, in many respects, one of the main routes to market. Exclusive rights may allow monopoly pricing and other market power tools. Regulatory measures used by competition authorities alone do not make it possible to avoid such a situation, as they often show a very low success rate in preventing market power from being used to protect consumers. The purpose of this article is to analyze the theory and practice of preparing negotiating strategies in a complex way, to reveal opportunities to develop and implement these negotiating strategies, taking into account competition policy actions. The subject of the study is the preparation of negotiation strategies taking into account competition policy actions in the market. The research problem of the article there is not enough tools in the negotiation theory to help develop negotiation strategies in line with competition policy actions.

Multicriteria assessment of the quality of waste sorting centers - ǂaǂ case study
Karmen Pažek, Jernej Prišenk, Simon Bukovski, Boris Prevolšek, Črtomir Rozman, 2020, original scientific article

Abstract: In this paper, the quality of the municipal waste sorting process in seven waste management centers in Slovenia was assessed using the qualitative multicriteria analysis (MCA) method DEX (Decision EXpert) implemented in DEXi software, which is based on multicriteria decomposition of the problem and utility functions in the form of ʺif-thenʺ decision rules. The study was based on eight types of secondary raw materials. The quality of the secondary raw materials, the regularity of the delivery of secondary raw materials to recycling units based on the sorting efficiency, and the loading weight of the individual baled fractions in the transport of secondary raw materials for recycling were the main parameters used in the model. The final assessment shows good waste management service in centers A and D. Centers B, C, and F were rated ʺaverageʺ. The ʺbadʺ rating was assigned to centers E and G.
