1. Expanding vocabulary through the use of multilingual reading materials in preschool periodBarbara Bednjički Rošer, Ines Voršič, 2025, independent scientific component part or a chapter in a monograph Abstract: The chapter focuses on vocabulary development in preschool children exploring multilingual literary and informative reading materials, namely a literary picture book and picture dictionaries. We conducted a case study to examine the familiarity with animals, i.e. the ability to name individual animals in Slovenian, in preschool children of the second age group (5–6 years). A total of 25 children (n = 25) participated in the study: 11 with Slovenian as their native language and 14 who learn Slovenian as a second language. The study results demonstrate significant differences in the naming of selected animals between children born in Slovenia and immigrant children. A particularly disquieting finding is that children who are soon to enter school have difficulty naming animals not only in Slovenian, but also in their mother tongue. 2. Theory and practice of experimental learning of the future preschool teachers in SloveniaJurka Lepičnik-Vodopivec, 2012, original scientific article Abstract: The present article illustrates the problem of a hidden curriculum in kindergartens. It is presented as an important part of the overt curriculum. The empathy of kindergarten teachers is shown within the scope of a hidden curriculum. The second part discusses the results of the research on empathy of preschool teachers as an important element of the hidden curriculum in kindergartens. Four dimensions of empathy were identified: social self-confi dence, calmness, sensitivity and non-conformism. Each of these dimensions contributes on its own and together with the others to a better understanding of empathy of kindergarten teachers, which undoubtedly influences and encourages the development of emphatic communication among preschool teachers, children and parents. In this contribution, we attempt to answer the question of how experimental learning is implemented in the educational program for future preschool teachers. At the same time, it is important to know that the ideas of experimental learning represent a consequence of searching a closer connection between theory and practice; in particular, in the processes of educating teachers/preschool teachers its beginnings date back to the era of reform pedagogy. In the fi rst part, we will introduce the grounds of the experimental learning of preschool teachers. In the second part, we will present the fi ndings of a survey on implementing the experimental learning in the educational program for future teachers of preschool children. We were interested in the assessment of representation of experimental learning in the undergraduate educational studies from the point-of-view of future preschool teachers, in the assessment of expected knowledge gained during the studies and in the evaluation of expected communication skills during the studies. The contribution reveals new questions about the possibilities of experimental learning of future preschool teachers; such possibilities are necessary so that the appropriate integration of experimental learning would contribute to higher professionalism of preschool teachers. 4. Evaluation of the planned curriculum for kindergartens in the field of music educationOlga Denac, 2009, published scientific conference contribution Abstract: The problem of planning music education is related to the philosophical dimension of the development of the curricula for music education. Knowledge and understanding of the theoretical bases, goals and principles of the curriculum is the basis for the planning, realisation and evaluation of the educational process of music education. The present article presents the results of a study which included 159 pre-school teachers from all over Slovenia. The aim of the research was to establish the place and the role music education should have in the curriculum designed for kindergartens, and to recognise the difficulties pre-school teachers encounter as they execute individual principles of the curriculum in the process of operative planning of music education. The designed curriculum was analysed from the point of view of structure, activities, goals, contents, teaching strategies and instructional media. The results of the research show that music education hasbeen losing professional autonomy within the field of art and that the teachers only partially carry out individual principles of the curriculum in the planning of the educational process.
