Regular and temporary employees in project organized business pay different attention to preconditions for learning

Abstract: Background and purpose: The purpose is to investigate whether regular and temporary staff differ in their perceptions of preconditions for learning and if there are some qualitative aspects that can be considered particularly significant in these differences. Design/Methodology/Approach: The approach consists of a case study based on both quantitative and qualitative data collected via an online questionnaire and individual interviews. Results: The paper question the understanding of the organization as a singular and more or less cohesive unit. On an organizational level, the project owner who hires staff does not care for competence transfer between regulars and temps, or between different groups of staff. At the individual level, temps are more focused on their specific task compared to regulars. Regulars’ seems to safeguarding a community or an organizational perspective, while temps are looking for their own good. Conclusions: There is a risk that one social unit differs, in attention payed to preconditions for learning, from another, when an organization use temporary staff. Therefore, the scientific value of this paper is that using temps may result in or be a consequence of a fragmented organization. The findings show no competence transfer in projects with both temps and regulars, and the project owner takes no active responsibility for human resource planning in terms of competence transfer between different groups of staff. The implications underline that long-term efficiency and rationality in an organization does not always have priority over organizational affiliation even with the hiring of expertise. When this happens, it may lead to a fragmented personnel group that is divided in thinkers/organizers and, performers/doers. When this happens, important practical skills fall outside of the organization, which in a metaphorical sense means that the hand is separated from the brain. Therefore, organizations with temporary staff need to plan for how to enable competence transfer between temporary and regular staff.

Analiza vpliva umestitve predvidene SVC naprave v slovenski elektroenergetski sistem s stališča dušenja ENTSO-E medsistemskih nihanj

Abstract: V procesu načrtovanja morebitnih bodočih investicij v slovenski elektroenergetski sistem se je pojavila potreba po obsežni analizi vplivov naprave iz družine FACTS na dušenje nizkofrekvenčnih med-sistemskih nihanj v ENTSO-E kontinentalni interkonekciji, in sicer statičnega var kompenzatorja (SVC). Po prvotni zamisli bi bila SVC naprava predvidena ureditvi lokalnih stacionarnih napetostnih razmer na 220 kV in 400 kV napetostnih nivojih v regiji. Ker napravo odlikuje hiter dinamičen odziv, je bilo smiselno preveriti tudi možnost uravnavanja razmer v širši električni okolici, torej na obratovanje ENTSO-E interkonekcije, katerega del je tudi slovenski elektroenergetski sistem. Analiza je bila izvedena na kompleksnem modelu omrežja za analizo dinamičnih pojavov, sestavljenega iz javno dostopnega ENTSO-E modela ter interno izdelanega (ter v preteklosti preverjenega) modela elektroenergetskega sistema Slovenije. Modeliranje omenjene naprave je bilo izvršeno na podlagi objavljenih raziskovalnih publikacij tako tujih kot domačih raziskovalcev. Z upoštevanjem preproste regulacijske strategije so rezultati v splošnem pokazali na pozitiven vpliv na stabilnost za majhne motnje ter identificirali tista med-sistemska nihanja, katerih dušenje je mogoče z napravo, priključeno na visokonapetostno omrežje Slovenije, uspešno dušiti.

Inter-municipal cooperation

Abstract: The financial crisis has once again brought up the question of the "perfect size" of local governments and revealed a new dimension of the eternal question of financing self-governing local communities. The paper presents a comparative overview of efforts to determine the "perfect size" of municipalities and recent reforms in different countries aimed at enabling municipalities to ensure both local-level democracy and identity, and economic efficiency in the delivery of public services. One of the most popular ways for achieving this goal is to promote various forms of inter-municipal cooperation. Some forms of inter-municipal cooperation already exist in Slovenia; a considerable breakthrough in this regard occurred in 2007, but such an approach would have been possible much earlier. Analyses show that this change is due to changes in the rules regarding co-financing. Despite the fact that neither literature nor politics in Slovenia sees inter-municipal cooperation as an alternative to merging municipalities, experiences show that practice will proceed in this direction.

Models of inter-organizational logistics management in Slovenia

Abstract: Throughout the history, the transportation of goods and related logistics have played an important role in human development and existence. This pertains to numerous interlinked processes, whose management is often linked to social system, international linkages, development of industry, market and market specifics. In modern times, the management of these processes is increasingly bound to globalization of production and market, moving of production to countries with cheaper labour force, environmental protection. The present Slovenian economy depends to a large extent on economies and corporate relations of the European Union and the world. Such inter-connectedness demands frequent transportation of semi-finished and finished goods. By providing timely delivery of goods, transportation consequently enables inter-organizational linkages and individual production, economic, market and other processes. Organizational and inter-organizational management of transport logistics demands profound understanding of transport flows, freight forwarding expertise and knowledge of transport, tax, environmental and other related regulations. Adequate knowledge and mastering of cultural, linguistic, national and other differences is important as well. The presented analysis and evaluation form the basis of the construction of inter-organizational model of logistics management in Slovenia.

The role of information for recognising business opportunities

Abstract: For decision making and recognising business chances, managers need a lot of knowledge and information. They can get them on different ways. Vital part of information represents accounting information amongst which creditworthiness information of business partners and competitors has special role. They include information from annual reports and a lot of other information. Creditworthiness information could contain nonaccounting information, as well. The fastest and the cheapest way of getting information is on the Internet. Searching for information about different businesses on their internet pages could be a time-consuming work, so there are very useful data bases which contained information of majority of businesses in the country. On the Internet we could find quite a lot of such data basses, which contain more or less appropriate information. In this paper we discuss the importance of knowledge and information for recognising business chances and analysing appropriateness of accounting information, which can be obtained from five of the most widely used data bases which contain information about Slovene and Croatian businesses, for the estimation of creditworthiness of businesses.

The role of employee relations in the level of internal integration between logistics and marketing functions

Abstract: Negative employee relations in companies are a ubiquitous phenomenon which, on one hand, may result in dissatisfaction and inefficiency of employees and, on the other hand, disappointing work results. The basis of research work for the following paper forms a definition of internal integration and its level as well as connection with the level of efficiency of inter-functional relations. The empirical part of the research paper examines the influence positive relations between functions may have on the level of internal integration. More specifically, the analysis focuses on employee relations from logistics and marketing functions. The research is based on the quantitative analysis of data acquired from a survey carried out at Slovenian retail companies.

Implementing activities within the framework of logistic and marketing functions and their influence on their level of integration

Abstract: Activities which are implemented in logistic and marketing function often intertwine or overlap in practice, what can often lead to double implementation. Within the framework of this article we will analyse the actual state of implementing activities in companies in correlation with the functional area. Logisticians often define integration within the frame of the aforementioned chain, yet they neglect the internal integration or the integration of particular departments or particular functions in the company. Defining internal integration and its level as well as the connection with the index of the actual implementation of activities is the basis of the research part of this article. The quantitative research part studies whether and to what extent the implementation of activities influences the level of internal integration between the logistic and marketing function. Research is based on quantitative analysis of results which were gained from the questionnaires and were filled out in Slovenian retail companies.

SOCIAL AND MORAL DIFFERENCES IN THE WORKS OF GEORGE B. SHAW THE MILLIONAIRESS AND THE APPLE CART

Abstract: The diploma thesis deals with social and moral differences in the plays of George B. Shaw, The Millionairess and The Apple Cart. Both plays deal with society issues, which have caused a growing precipice between classes; however, they also deal with inter-human relationships, pursuit of personal happiness, politics and religion. The characters in both plays are involved in a power struggle; recurrent conflicts between them are depicted with sharp dialogues in comic situations. The prefaces of both plays also play an important role; they give us an insight of Shaw’s opinion and provide an explanation for the behaviour of some characters.

VLOGA OPERATIVNEGA MANAGEMENTA V PODJETJU PORSCHE INTER AUTO D.O.O., PODRUŽNICA PORSCHE VEROVŠKOVA

Abstract: V diplomskem delu smo raziskali kakšna je vloga operativnega managementa v podjetju Porsche Inter Auto d.o.o, za katerega menimo, da je ključnega pomena pri doseganju ciljev podjetja. Želeli smo ugotoviti ali je izvajana strategija ustrezna, kje nastajajo vrzeli ter kaj bi bilo potrebno opustiti in kaj dodati. Prikazali bomo probleme, s katerim se sooča operativni management. Na podlagi rezultatov mnenjske ankete bomo poiskali rešitve, ki bi lahko v prihodnje podjetju pomagale dosegati boljše rezultate oziroma bi pripeljale zastavljene cilje na optimalno raven. V omenjeni organizaciji ima operativni management poglavitno vlogo, saj je v večji meri odgovoren za realizacijo zastavljenih ciljev. Namen diplomskega dela je povezati znanje iz prakse z najnovejšimi dognanji iz literature na praktičnem primeru podjetja. Diplomsko delo je razdeljeno na dva dela — teoretičnega in raziskovalnega. V prvem, teoretičnem delu, smo s pomočjo literature opredelili temeljne sklope pojmov, ki smo jih pojasnili in razčlenili. Ti pojmi so managenemt, modeli strukture operativnega vodenja, vloga operativnega managementa v podjetju in vloga managementa pri opravljanju funkcij. Izluščili smo nekaj pomembnih podpoglavij, za katere smo menili, da se nanašajo na izbrano tematiko. V drugem razsikovalnem delu smo navedli namen in cilj raziskave ter predstavili podjetje Porsche Inter Auto d.o.o., v katerem je bila raziskava opravljena. Poudarek je na analizi in rezultatih mnenjske ankete, ki je bila izvedena v podjetju. Na podlagi rezultatov mnenjske ankete smo prišli do ugotovitev, ki so podane na koncu diplomskega dela.
