Building intimacy between the protagonists in the film adaptations of Hardy's Far from the madding crowd : master's thesisKarmen Globočnik, 2025, master's thesis Abstract: Thomas Hardy’s Far from the Madding Crowd (1874) has been adapted into film multiple times, with notable versions directed by John Schlesinger (1967), Nicholas Renton (1998), and Thomas Vinterberg (2015). This thesis explores how these adaptations portray the intimacy between the two protagonists, Bathsheba Everdene and Gabriel Oak, focusing on the visual and narrative techniques that have been used to develop their relationship.
By analysing a selection of key scenes from each adaptation, the thesis investigates the use of close-ups, camera angles, and dialogue features to convey the growing intimacy between Bathsheba and Gabriel, examining how these techniques reflect power dynamics and interact with physical closeness. Additionally, it considers how portraying intimacy differs across adaptations. The 1967 and 1998 films seem to use power dynamics more prominently through camera angles, while the 2015 adaptation foregrounds physical intimacy and humour. The findings show that each film emphasizes various aspects of the protagonists' relationship; the 1967 version focuses more on Bathsheba and Troy's connection, while the 1998 and 2015 films highlight the bond between Bathsheba and Gabriel.
Finally, this thesis contributes to the study of film adaptations of classic literature by offering a detailed comparison of the representation of intimacy across three distinct cinematic interpretations of Hardy’s novel. 3. Water flow decrease of track-etched polyethylene terephthalate membranesAna Ambrož, Zhen Yao, Christopher Rojas, Polina Angelova, Armin Gölzhäuser, Irena Petrinić, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: Track-etched polyethylene terephthalate (TE-PET) membranes, characterized by their well-defined cylindrical pores and narrow pore size distribution, offer advantages in filtration applications but demonstrate a gradual decrease of water flux over time. In this work, we evaluate the performance of track-etched polyethylene terephthalate (TE-PET) membranes as microfilters in low-pressure cross-flow and dead-end filtration systems. Membranes with pore sizes between 0.2 and 2.5 μm and porosities of 0.2–20% were tested at different low pressures (0.02–10 bar). Monitoring water flux over time exhibited a significant reduction. This behaviour is attributed to polymer swelling within the pore walls due to the formation of a sol-gel film. Notably, this swelling is enhanced under dynamic flow conditions, with larger pores exhibiting more rapid and pronounced flux decline. When filtering organic solvents, the flux drop is less pronounced and depends on their viscosity and polarity. Surface characterization by atomic force microscopy further confirmed morphological changes in TE-PET support after water filtration. Additional contributing factors, such as fouling and compaction, are also discussed. Med resničnostjo in fikcijo: komparativna analiza režijskih pristopov skozi primere filmov "Dostava" in "Zdenkine štenge"Aleksandar Tadić, 2024, master's thesis Abstract: Magistrsko delo raziskuje režijske pristope v igranih in dokumentarnih filmih skozi primera kratkega igranega filma „Dostava” in kratkega dokumentarnega filma „Zdenkine štenge.” Teoretični del analizira temo na podlagi teorij in razprav filmskih teoretikov in ustvarjalcev. Empirični del se osredotoča na režijo mizanscene v filmski produkciji, vključno s postavitvijo scene, scenografijo, kamero, vodenjem igralcev ter montažo, pri čemer se uporablja kvalitativna analiza, konkretno se analizira ustvarjalni proces režiserja kot filmskega avtorja. Rezultati razkrivajo pomembne razlike v režijskih tehnikah med žanri, ki vplivajo na estetiko, pripovedno strukturo in razvoj zgodbe ter ponujajo globlji vpogled v ustvarjalne procese režije. Snap! « From a Filming Location to an Instagrammable Destination: The Case of Dubrovnik as King’s Landing : the Case of Dubrovnik as King’s LandingHava Kadušić, 2024, undergraduate thesis Abstract: Instagram is an essential visual social media platform where tourism organizations can present their destinations. These presentations could feature authentic natural and cultural sites, be user-generated, etc. Dubrovnik is a prominent tourism destination in Croatia. In 2011, it became famous as an onsite filming location for the globally popular TV series Game of Thrones. In this thesis, we investigate whether the Croatian National Tourism Organisation and the Dubrovnik Local Tourism Organisation present the city as a film destination featuring Game of Thrones or as an authentic destination featuring its heritage and nature. We explore destination image construction, including identity, authenticity, decision-making, and promotion. We also discuss film-induced tourism and the role of social media, mainly through user-generated content and Instagram. For our research, we employed content and thematic analysis using a summative approach to analyze photos from 2016 to 2020 on the official Instagram profiles of the National and Local Tourism Organisations, totaling 1.034 photos. The results show that the National Tourism Organisation uses Dubrovnik’s relationship with Game of Thrones to fabricate the authenticity of the destination image, while the Local Tourism Organisation focuses solely on heritage and nature, thus guarding its authenticity. 6. Korozijske lastnosti cirkonija v agresivnem mediju in umetni slini s simulacijo vnetnih procesov : diplomsko delo visokošolskega strokovnega študijskega programa I. stopnjeNensy Klačinski, 2024, undergraduate thesis Abstract: Proučevali smo korozijsko hitrost in primerjali odpornosti cirkonija korodiranega v agresivnem mediju in umetni slini s simulacijo vnetnih procesov. Vzorce smo potopili v čisto umetno slino in v raztopine vodikovega peroksida različnih koncentracij. Pripravljenim raztopinam vodikovega peroksida smo dodajali mlečno kislino, da bi dosegli pH vrednost 4,5, ki je enak pH vrednosti plaka v ustni votlini. S tem smo želeli dobiti čim bolj podobno okolje, ki so jim vsakodnevno izpostavljeni naši zobje in ustna votlina. Vzorce smo potopili v pripravljene raztopine pri 37°C in jih pasivirali 24, 48, 72 in 96 ur. Rezultate smo dobili na osnovi gravimetrične metode in vzorcem izračunali korozijsko hitrost.
Izgube mase vzorca cirkonija v umetni slini v raztopinah z različnimi koncentracijami vodikovega peroksida so zelo majhne. Posledično so tudi korozijske hitrosti nizke. Korozijska hitrost po 24 urah pasiviranja je bila relativno visoka. Znižanje korozijske hitrosti smo opazili že po 48 urah pasiviranja. Pri raztopinah H2O2 s 5% in 10% koncentracijo in pH=4,5, predpostavljamo, da se je po 72 urah izpostavljenosti zaščitna plast malenkost porušila, saj se je korozijska hitrost nekoliko zvišala, dokler ni nastopila - t.i. repasivacija, kar prikazuje ponovno znižanje korozijske hitrosti po 96 urah pasiviranja. Izračunane korozijske hitrosti so še vedno relativno majhne in zato je cirkonij z vidika korozije primeren za izdelavo dentalnih implantatov. Dielectric and thermal conductive properties of differently structured ▫$Ti_3C_2T_x$▫ MXene-integrated nanofibrillated cellulose filmsSubramanian Lakshmanan, Vida Jurečič, Vid Bobnar, Vanja Kokol, 2024, original scientific article Abstract: The fabrication of nanocellulose-based substrates with high dielectric permittivity and anisotropic thermal conductivity to replace synthetic thermoplastics in flexible organic electronics remains a big challenge. Herein, films were prepared from native (CNF) and carboxylated (TCNF) cellulose nanofibrils, with and without the addition of thermally conductive multi-layered Ti3C2Tx MXene, to examine the impact of polar (− OH, − COOH) surface groups on the film morphological, moisturizing, dielectric, and thermal dissipation properties. The electrostatic repulsion and hydrogen bonding interaction between the hydrophilic surface/terminal groups on CNF/TCNF and MXene was shown to render their self-assembly distribution and organization into morphologically differently structured films, and, consequently, different properties. The pristine CNF film achieved high intrinsic dielectric permittivity (ε' ~ 9), which was further increased to almost ε' ~ 14 by increasing (50 wt%) the MXene content. The well-packed and aligned structure of thinner TCNF films enables the tuning of both the composite’s dielectric permittivity (ε' ~ 6) and through-plane thermal conductivity (K ~ 2.9 W/mK), which increased strongly (ε' ~ 17) at higher MXene loading giving in-plane thermal conductivity of ~ 6.3 W/mK. The air-absorbed moisture ability of the films contributes to heat dissipation by releasing it. The dielectric losses remained below 0.1 in all the composite films, showing their potential for application in electronics. 8. Pouk filmske vzgoje za učence 3. razreda osnovne šole : magistrsko deloKatja Šeruga, 2024, master's thesis Abstract: Magistrsko delo temelji na vpeljavi filmske vzgoje na razredno stopnjo.
V teoretičnem delu smo najprej opredelili pojem film in na kratko predstavili filmske zvrsti ter filmske žanre. Opisali smo kakšne filme si otroci najraje ogledajo in kaj jih pri filmu pritegne. Predstavili smo zgodovino uporabe filma v šolstvu in nastanek izbirnega predmeta Filmska vzgoja. Prav tako smo opisali uporabo filma pri pouku ter metode in oblike dela za analizo filma. Med pripravo magistrskega dela smo preučili učni načrt za predmet filmska vzgoja in vključenost filmov v učni načrt za slovenščino. Predstavili smo otrokov razvoj in dojemanje filma od predšolske vzgoje do mladostništva. Navedli smo tudi prednosti in slabosti uporabe filma pri pouku.
V empiričnem delu smo pripravili in izvedli ter nato natančno analizirali aktivnosti za učence 3. razreda osnovne šole na temo knjige in filma Anica in Jakob. Aktivnosti so zapisane v obliki učne priprave, ki jo lahko učitelji uporabijo pri svojem delu in vsebujejo vse potrebne priloge. S pomočjo pripravljenih aktivnosti razvijamo kritičnega bralca in gledalca, govorne in bralne sposobnosti, spodbujamo delo v skupinah in javno nastopanje ter bogatimo besedni zaklad. 10. Dopamine-assisted modification of polypropylene film to attain hydrophilic mineral-rich surfacesAlenka Ojstršek, Angela Chemelli, Azra Osmić, Selestina Gorgieva, 2023, original scientific article Abstract: The presented study focuses on the modification of polypropylene (PP) film with tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) under heterogeneous conditions via polydopamine/polyethylene imine (PDA/PEI) chemistry using a facile dip-coating procedure to attain hydrophilic mineral-rich surfaces. Thus, the resulting PP-based films were further immersed in ion-rich simulated body fluid (SBF) to deposit Ca-based minerals onto the film’s surfaces efficiently. In addition, the chemical reaction mechanism on PP film was proposed, and mineralisation potential inspected by determination of functional groups of deposits, zeta potential, hydrophilicity and surface morphology/topography using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, streaming potential, water contact angle (WCA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The obtained results show the improved wettability of samples on account of PDA inclusion (WCA was reduced from 103° for pure PP film to 28° for PDA-modified film), as well as the presence of functional groups, due to the PDA/PEI/TEOS surface functionalisation, increased the ability of minerals to nucleate on the PP film’s surface when it was exposed to an SBF medium. Moreover, the higher surface roughness due to the silica coatings influenced the enhanced anchoring and attachment of calcium phosphate (CaP), revealing the potential of such a facile approach to modify the chemically inert PP films, being of particular interest in different fields, including regenerative medicine.
