Analysis and synthesis of theoretical and practical implications of case management model and notation
Mateja Bule, Gregor Polančič, 2025, original scientific article

Abstract: Case Management Model and Notation (CMMN) is a graphical notation used to model less predictable, highly flexible processes that may behave differently in each instance. It uses an event-centred approach and expands on what can be modelled with procedural modelling notations. Nearly a decade since the occurrence of CMMN, its practical use is questionable. We performed this research to identify possible reasons for this and to classify the potential advantages and disadvantages of CMMN. With the aforementioned objectives, we conducted a systematic literature review, which provided a broad insight into the state of the investigated object along with techniques for analysing qualitative data, coding, and successive approximation. From an initial set of 942 articles, 43 remain relevant. The results of the analysis and synthesis of the obtained data from relevant articles were generalised codes, which were used to explicitly answer the research questions. The results indicate that CMMN has good foundations in the declarative modelling approach and within the Case Management paradigm. Nevertheless, some issues were identified with the notation and elements of CMMN and with its complement—Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN).

Sistemska embolija s hrano zaradi atrio-ezofagealne fistule po alkoholni ablaciji Marshalove vene : prikaz primera
Živa Ledinek, Marko Hojnik, 2024, other scientific articles

Overview of social entrepreneurship development in Slovenia
Barbara Bradač Hojnik, 2020, original scientific article

Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyze public policies of social entrepreneurship in Slovenia and their developmental phases, the characteristics of social economy organizations, and to assess the framework conditions for social entrepreneurship by social enterprises. Since social entrepreneurship follows mainly social objectives, it needs the support of the ecosystem to develop properly. The EU allows the Member States to regulate social entrepreneurship itself, so Slovenia has formalized the social entrepreneurship domain through national-level legislation. In the article, a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods is applied, using primary data on social enterprises and a case study approach. The results of the analysis of social economy organizations in Slovenia indicate that the formal status of social enterprises covers a wide range of organizations and their share is low in the national context. The analysis of the case study organizations indicates that the legislation is considered as the main factor hindering the development of social entrepreneurship. Moreover, their assessment of public policies is rather judgmental and disapproving. In general, the results reveal that although the area of social entrepreneurship in Slovenia is developing, a vision and long-term strategy is still lacking and the implementation of supportive environment incentives is insufficient.

Diplomatic protection of dual nationals : magistrsko delo
Zala Heric, 2024, master's thesis

Abstract: This master’s thesis presents a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the concept of diplomatic protection of dual nationals. It primarily draws upon the ILC’s Draft Articles on Diplomatic Protection, with a particular emphasis on Articles 6 and 7. Additionally, it considers the case law of international courts and tribunals as a secondary source of insight. Although the concept of diplomatic protection and dual nationality are not novel in the context of international law, the relationship between them has recently attracted greater scrutiny due to the influence of evolving geopolitical and social factors. Accordingly, the master’s thesis examines the notion of diplomatic protection and its relationship to dual nationals, with particular emphasis on pivotal turning points and rulings that have shaped contemporary perceptions of the issue. The concept of diplomatic protection as defined by international law enables a State to assert the rights of its citizens who have suffered injury abroad as a result of an infringement of international law. This is predicated on the connection between the nationality and the State, as well as the injured individual, since the right to diplomatic protection is usually extended to the State of nationality of an individual. Furthermore, the prerequisite of exhaustion of local remedies must be satisfied. In the case of diplomatic protection of dual nationals, two options are available under Draft Articles: a claim can be made against a third State in which the individual does not hold nationality, or against the other State of nationality. Article 7 of the Draft Articles stipulates that a State of nationality is precluded from providing diplomatic protection to a dual national against another State of nationality unless the former State’s nationality is predominant. In determining the factors that shape the predominance of one’s nationality, the Merge case is instructive. These factors include individual residence, family ties and the centre of one’s interest. With regard to claims for diplomatic protection against a third State, Article 6 of the Draft Articles stipulates that both States of nationality may jointly exercise diplomatic protection against a third State in which the dual national does not hold nationality, relying on the Salem case. Furthermore, in the absence of a genuine link to a State of nationality, third States are unable to contest the claims.

Electricity prices and consumer behavior, case study Serbia - randomized control trials method
Iztok Podbregar, Sanja Filipović, Mirjana Radovanović, Olga Mirković-Isaeva, Polona Šprajc, 2021, original scientific article

Abstract: The aim of this research was to identify energy saving instructions effect on household’s electricity consumption. The research was conducted using Randomized Control Trials, which implied defining a treatment and control group on a sample of 330 households. The research was carried out in Republic of Serbia, where electricity prices are the lowest in Europe and electricity is used inefficiently. For quantitative analysis of data, the Difference in Difference method was used, which compares the changes in electricity consumption over time between the treatment and control group and estimates the overall impact of the energy saving instructions. The research showed that in situations where electricity price is very low, energy saving information does not have the significant impact on change in consumer behavior. However, inefficient use of electricity might be due to the different efficiency of heating devices used. Not only that the low impact of information on energy saving habits may be a consequence of the low will to change habit, but also of the impossibility to change the habit (unless changing the heating device, but this implies expenditures). Results can be used for consideration of changes in organization and regulation of the electricity market in all South Eastern European countries (SEE).

Organizational maturity and sustainability orientation influence on DMS life cycle : case analysis
Sandra Jordan, Simona Sternad Zabukovšek, 2023, original scientific article

Abstract: The topic of the article addresses the management of the document management system (DMS), which represents one of the important steps for organizations to speed up the implementation of business processes, achieve better control over documents, and ensure safer operations. When implementing and using DMS, the importance of the organization’s maturity shall not be forgotten, as it gives the organization a framework to evaluate and improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the organization’s DMS, which can contribute to better decision-making and increased productivity. On the other hand, sustainable-oriented organizations are likely to show interest in choosing, implementing, and using DMS. In the article, the impact of an organization’s maturity and the role of sustainability on the DMS lifecycle are researched. Results are presented based on a case analysis of Company X. Supporting the case analysis, structured interviews with the project leader on the clients’ and the project leader on the providers’ side have been performed, which shall give a deeper insight into DMS implementation and the importance of sustainability and organizational maturity, resulting in more successful DMS implementation and use.

Optimizing smart manufacturing systems using digital twin
Robert Ojsteršek, Aljaž Javernik, Borut Buchmeister, 2023, original scientific article

Abstract: Presented paper investigates the application of digital twins for the optimisation of intelligent manufacturing systems and focuses on the comparison between simulation modelling results and real-world production conditions. A digital twin was created in the Simio software environment using a data-driven simulation model derived from a real-world production system. Running the digital twin in real time, which was displayed graphically, facilitated the analysis of key parameters, including the number of finished products, average flow time, workstation utilization and product quality. The discrepancies were attributed to the use of random distributions of input data in the dynamic digital twin, as opposed to the long-term measurements and averages in the real-world system. Despite the limitations in the case study, the results underline the financial justification and predictive capabilities of digital twins for optimising production systems. Real-time operation enables continuous evaluation and tracking of parameters and offers high benefits for intelligent production systems. The study emphasises the importance of accurate selection of input data and warns that even small deviations can lead to inaccurate results. Finally, the paper high-lights the role of digital twins in optimising production systems and argues for careful consideration of input data. It highlights the importance of analysing real-world production systems and creating efficient simulation models as a basis for digital twin solutions. The results encourage extending the research to different types of production, from job shop to mass production, in order to obtain a comprehensive optimisation perspective.

Business IT alignment impact on corporate sustainability
Uroš Zabukovšek, Polona Tominc, Samo Bobek, 2023, original scientific article

Abstract: Business-IT alignment (BITA) has become crucial for effective organisational management in today's interconnected global economy. This article investigates the relationship between BITA and corporate sustainability, exploring how businesses can leverage BITA for sustainable growth and development. The study employs a case research approach in a multinational manufacturing organisation, utilising a mixed methods research (MMR) design. In the quantitative part of the research, the PLS-SEM technique was used to examine the influence of six BITA factors on employees' self-perceived action competence for sustainability (SPACS). This study confirmed that all six BITA factors strongly influence all three SPACS factors. In the qualitative part of the research, semi-structured interviews were used to measure the BITA maturity level of the organisation and the influence of BITA factors on corporate sustainability. Based on quantitative and qualitative research results, it can be confirmed that BITA strongly influences corporate sustainability. Results also confirm that there is no universal approach to BITA and its influence on corporate sustainability. Organisations must focus on all factors of BITA equally to achieve better levels of BITA and ensure its influence on corporate sustainability.

The possibility of using self-defence against non-state actors : magistrsko delo
Patricija Glavica, 2023, master's thesis

Abstract: This master’s thesis systematically and in-depth examines the notion of self-defence, primarily through the ratione personae aspect and thus focuses on the possibility of its use against non-state actors. While the use of self-defence against non-state actors is not a new phenomenon in international law, it is nonetheless taking on new dimensions, particularly in the context of the fight against terrorism. The right to self-defence is one of the exceptions to the jus cogens prohibition of the use of force. It is an ‘inherent’ right, codified in Article 51 of the UN Charter and forming part of customary international law. According to the primary understanding, the right to self-defence had a State-centric approach, which was also continuously affirmed in the jurisprudence of the International Court of Justice. Consequently, a State could only use self-defence against a non-state actor if its actions were imputable to another State in whose territory defensive force was being used. However, especially after the 9/11 attack there have been tendencies to broaden the right to self-defence and allow its use even if the actions by a non-state actor are not attributable to a State under the current attributability standards. Due to the complexity of the right to self-defence it requires careful examination through different aspects and sources of international law. It can be observed that the opinions regarding the expansion of the right to self-defence are very different. Firstly, scholars have widely divergent views regarding the correct interpretation of Article 51 of the UN Charter under the rules of the VCLT. Secondly, in its previous judgements, the International Court of Justice has maintained the State-centric approach, while potentially allowing room for a more expansive approach to self-defence. Thirdly, States have since the 9/11 attack started to regularly invoke the right to self-defence when using extraterritorial force against non-state actors. However, the reactions of States relating to such use of force and the opinions of scholars regarding the implications of such State practice, are equivocal. Taking everything into consideration this master’s thesis concludes that neither Article 51 of the UN Charter nor customary international law allow the use of self-defence against non-state actors, whose actions are not attributable to a State. Although the right to self-defence is undoubtedly expanding, its scope is not yet fully crystallized.
