Optimizing UWB First Path Search Algorithm Performance on a Dedicated DSP : magistrsko delo

Abstract: The aim of the thesis was to optimize the UWB first path search algorithm performance on a dedicated DSP. Development was focused on enabling various optimizations tech- niques of the DSP architecture. Insights into how the CIR is correlated, how the FP algo- rithm determines the actual FP are presented. The purpose of optimizing the FP algorithm was to improve the performance and lower the power consumption of the UWB system. The highly optimized DSP architecture contains numerous optimization techniques that needed to be discovered. With the optimization techniques provided by the DSP architec- ture, we were able to boost the FP algorithm performance by a significant amount, with potential for further enhancements.

Performance-oriented UWB RTLS decision-making approach

Abstract: When introducing new technologies, companies are repeatedly faced with choosing between solutions from different providers. Regardless of all the good technical characteristics of the technology, if it is chosen inappropriately, it can prove to be a cost driver instead of something that brings added value to the system. Aware of this, we considered selecting a real-time location system (RTLS) based on Ultra-wideband technology in the indoor work environment. In practice and theory, it has been proven that the introduction of the RTLS can have highly positive effects on performance and business sustainability indicators. When reviewing the literature, it was noticed that authors solely focus on the technical properties of the systems and prices when giving guidelines on selecting the optimal RTLS. This article aims to provide advanced guidelines for UWB RTLS selection, proposing a phased selection process which is the main novelty proposed and investigated in this research. The guidelines are based on fragmented recommendations in the scientific literature that have been identified, gathered, considered, and reasonably allocated to the advanced performance-oriented phased selection process. In practice, this approach enables decision-makers to choose the most efficient and most appropriate UWB RTLS for specific logistics systems.

Primerjava natančnosti dveh različnih testnih UWB RTLS : diplomsko delo univerzitetnega študijskega programa

Abstract: V podjetjih je za dvig učinkovitosti ključnega pomena sledenje materialov, polizdelkov in končnih izdelkov. Sistemi, ki omogočajo sledenje v notranjih prostorih, so sistemi za notranje sledenje RTLS (angl. Real Time Location Systems). Diplomsko delo analizira razlike v natančnosti lociranja objektov s pomočjo testnih RTLS dveh različnih proizvajalcev, dostopnih v Sloveniji. Razlike v meritvah sistemov nastajajo zaradi komponent, ki sestavljajo RTLS in zaradi prostora, v katerem se izvajajo meritve. Dejavniki, ki vplivajo na natančnost meritev, so opisani v teoretičnem delu naloge. V praktičnem delu naloge je opisana izvedba meritev, za katere sta bila uporabljena dva testna RTLS, katerih delovanje temelji na UWB (angl. Ultra Wideband) tehnologiji. Analiza podatkov z uporabo statističnih testov je pokazala, da med testnima sistemoma ni statistično značilnih razlik med izmerjenimi vrednostmi koordinat x, obstajajo pa statistično značilne razlike med izmerjenimi vrednostmi koordinat y. Odstopanja izmerjenih vrednosti od dejanskih vrednosti obeh koordinat v 20 % meritev za oba analizirana sistema niso bila v obljubljenem intervalu proizvajalcev. Populacijsko povprečje izvedenih meritev se statistično značilno razlikuje od napake, ki jo poročata proizvajalca. Pri testnih sistemih se lahko pričakujejo odstopanja od zagotovljene natančnosti implementiranega industrijskega sistema. Vzrokov za odstopanja nismo preučevali.

Smernice za odločanje o vpeljavi RTLS (UWB) sistemov

Abstract: Četrta industrijska revolucija med drugim zahteva digitalizacijo, napredno avtomatizacijo in uporabo robotov. Nastajajoči pametni sistemi temeljijo na vidnosti vseh in vsega, kar te sisteme sestavlja, skozi podatke, zbrane v elektronski obliki. Pomemben podatek je tudi lokacija osebe ali objekta v realnem času. Na prostem je sledenje ljudem, vozilom in predmetom že utečena procedura, podprta s cenovno dostopno tehnologijo in programskimi rešitvami. V zaprtih prostorih to funkcionalnost zagotavljajo sistemi za sledenje v realnem času, na katere se osredotoča ta raziskava. Podatki o lokaciji so potrebni za načrtovanje dela, zagotavljanje varnosti, izboljšanje učinkovitosti, zmanjšanje administrativnega dela in podobno. V magistrskem delu so najprej predstavljene njihove splošne lastnosti in delovanje. Nadaljujemo z opisi in primerjavo petih najpogosteje uporabljenih RTLS-tehnologij, ki delujejo na podlagi radijskih valov. Dalje predstavimo primere uporabe sistemov, temelječih na UWB-tehnologiji v logistiki, natančneje v skladiščnih in proizvodnih okoljih. UWB-tehnologija se je izkazala za najbolj natančno in odporno proti zunanjim dejavnikom, kar se odraža tudi v porastu zanimanja zanjo. V zaključnem delu so zbrane pomembnejše ugotovitve skozi usmeritve za potencialne uporabnike, predvsem managerje na področju logistike, pri vpeljavi RTLS v delovno okolje podjetij.

Development of an automated measurement system for UWB Radar : master's thesis

Abstract: Ultra-wideband is becoming a key technological element in the consumer industry, providing a safe and reliable way to enable more precise location services as well as secure access to a multitude of systems. Ultra-wideband radar is a subset of that technology, providing not only device-free localization techniques but also complementing expensive medical-level devices or providing means to measure vital signs in a more accessible way. Ultra-wideband radars embedded in smart devices like smartphones can be used for presence detection, gesture recognition, and vital sign monitoring (i.e., breathing detection and heart rate monitoring). Ultra-wideband radar is still in development, and during that process it needs to be well-tested to match the customers’ expectations and standards that apply to the technology. In this master’s thesis, we start by providing a brief overview of ultra-wideband technology. Then we propose and develop an automated measurement system for UWB radar that tests the radio frequency functionality of a radar device, its compliance with standards, frequency regulations, and use-case testing. Performing measurements to test the aforementioned radar devices is a time-consuming and cumbersome task that can be replaced by our developed automated measurement system. We demonstrate the advantages in terms of reduced measurement time and improved test reproducibility, resulting in a well-tested ultra-wideband radar device during the development cycle.

Precizna navigacija v zaprtem prostoru s pomočjo uporabe UWB tehnologije : diplomsko delo

Abstract: V diplomski nalogi sta opisana delovanje in izvedba pozicioniranja v zaprtem prostoru s pomočjo tehnologije UWB. Ključni del naloge je oddajnik DW1000, ki temelji na tehnologiji UWB, podpira frekvenčne pasove od 3GHz do 6,5GHz in je popolnoma programljiv. Med moduli poteka izmenjava sporočil, pri čemer lahko beležimo čas pošiljanja in prejemanja sporočil ter preračunamo čas preleta signala. Signal UWB potuje s svetlobno hitrostjo. Na osnovi časa preleta lahko določimo razdaljo med dvema moduloma. Za pridobivanje koordinat na podlagi razdalj uporabimo matematični postopek trilateracije.
