1. From Bosnia and Herzegovina to China in the 21st century : a case study of personal migration historiesBojan Ćudić, David Hazemali, Matjaž Klemenčič, Jernej Zupančič, 2023, original scientific article Abstract: This study is the first to examine recent migration from Bosnia and Herzegovina to China in the 21st century. It gives an overview of new Chinese geopolitical and economic circumstances, a historical analysis of migration flows between China and the rest of the world from the 19th to the 21st century, and a survey of recent emigration flows from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The second part presents the results of an empirical study of labour migration from Bosnia and Herzegovina to China and the experiences of 25 migrants, which was conducted using structured interviews The research results show that most in the group plan to stay in China permanently. Some would like to move to North America or Australia. It is characteristic that there are no gender gaps in terms of qualifica-tions or career ambitions. The measures to combat COVID-19 imple-mented by the Chinese government affected the respondents in different ways. 2. The role of the international community in a new model of reforming the political and social architecture of Bosnia and HerzegovinaJanez Juvan, Andrej Sotlar, 2022, original scientific article Abstract: Purpose: For decades, the international community has been trying to contribute to long-term peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), but it has been only partially successful. The purpose of the paper is to present a new model for the reform of the political and social architecture, which, along with the new role of the international community, will ensure the peace, stability and security of BiH, and at the same time will be applicable in other areas of the world. Design/Methods/Approach: The article brings insights in the mentioned processes by using combinations of theoretical and empirical methods, of which the most important are in-depth interviews with experts who know the region in detail, as well as the measures already implemented in (post)conflict areas in some other parts of the world. Findings: The article discusses a possible model for the future role of the international community in this country as developed by the Working Group on BiH. The model relies on technical assistance to the country for fundamental reforms provided by highly qualified international experts using a modular reform implementation strategy. It is a modular implementation of the reforms, which increases the efficiency and at the same time checks the suitability of the proposed solutions. Research Limitations/Implications: The situation in BiH is very complex due to the complicated political system, the ethnic map, the political situation, the economic and social situation, therefore, generalizing the findings is difficult. Practical Implications: Reforms must strengthen the rule of law, modernize public administration, harmonize the business environment through fiscal policy and control institutions, open and protect labour competitiveness, establish functioning social, health, and pension systems, and open up space for civil society. Originality /Value: Article is presenting the new model as a regional integration programme for infrastructure, economy, education, inter-institutional cooperation, culture, and sports. 4. Thermal regime of annual air temperature in Bosnia and HerzegovinaNusret Drešković, Ranko Mirić, 2017, original scientific article Abstract: Horizontal air temperature is defined by the value of the mean air temperature for a certain surface area unit. It is defined by the value of horizontal thermal gradient, i.e. the value of average change of horizontal temperature per unit area. In order to define the horizontal change of air temperature in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a GRID thermal model was constructed whose spatial resolution is 20 m. Based on obtained thermal model geo-database it was determined that the mean annual air temperature for the whole area of Bosnia and Herzegovina is about 10.9 °C, keeping in mind that there are significant thermal differences with respect to the two existing climate zones. More specifically, on the territory of the northern temperate climate zone the average annual temperature is about 9.7 °C, while in the Mediterranean climate zone the said value is 12.1 °C.
In this work, it was also found that thermal contrasts are very pronounced as well, due to the fact that average annual temperature in the highest mountain peak zones in southeastern Bosnian highlands is negative and is found to be -1.4 °C (Maglić peak), while at the Neum coastal zone it is measured at 15.9 °C. The above stated pronounced thermal contrasts are determined on a small horizontal distance, as a consequence of climactic position of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as highly pronounced terrain dynamics. 5. Geographical reflections of mine pollution in Bosnia and Herzegovina and CroatiaSnježana Musa, Željka Šiljković, Dario Šakić, 2017, original scientific article Abstract: Numerous landmine fields cause an immense problem for the development of economy in rural areas of the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Even twenty years after the Homeland War in Croatia, i.e. the same period after signing the Dayton Accord and war cessation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, huge areas are still contaminated with landmines. In Croatia are approximately 1.69 % of contaminated territory agricultural areas in the east part of country, forests and forestry land, i.e. pastures in highlands and the Mediterranean areas are most endangered. Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the most landmine contaminated countries in the world. Severe landmine contamination in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been detected on pasture and forestry land, in the vicinity of the former war zone, in the central part of the country. Out of the total number of 1,366 landmine contaminated settlements in the Bosnia and Herzegovina territory, some 1,169 are rural communities. 6. The demographic ageing of population in Bosnia and Herzegovina : causes and consequencesAlma Kadušić, Alija Suljić, Nedima Smajić, 2016, original scientific article Abstract: In this paper the age structure and the ageing population process in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century is analyzed. The main reasons that caused changes in the age composition of the population and the population ageing in Bosnia and Herzegovina have been researched. The main causes of the population ageing in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the second half of the 20th century were primarily trends in fertility rates and secondarily trends in mortality rates. The economic growth of Bosnia and Herzegovina after World War II conditioned changes in the economic and educational structure of the population and with that the changes in the natural increase rates and migration balance. The war was the main cause of negative demographic changes in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period from 1992 to 1995, and the post-war adverse socioeconomic, political and other circumstances have been the cause of negative demographic trends after 1995. The aim of this paper is to determine the level of population ageing in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the consequences this process could have on the demographic future of this country. 7. Fish ponds as a factor of development in rural areas of Bosnia and HerzegovinaRahman Nurković, 2014, original scientific article Abstract: This paper explains the impact of fish farms on the development of rural areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Fishing in Bosnia and Herzegovina was recognized as an opportunity for industrial production, tourism and placing high quality healthy food on market as well as rural development and the possibility of creating new jobs. In terms of agroclimatic conditions, Bosnia and Herzegovina has a very favorable geographical, hydrological, climatic and ecological conditions for fish production, which is reflected in the availability of water resources of rivers, lakes and marine fish farms. In Bosnia and Herzegovina there are 41 registered fish farms of freshwater and saltwater fish and it is estimated that there are about twenty unregulated fish farms. With the available resources, the existance of tradition in production, decades of existance of lake fish ponds and dynamic development of production in cages classify fish farming as a significant branch of economy, which ensures it in the domestic market, but also on the markets of neighboring countries, the European Union. 8. Nature protection in Bosnia and Herzegovina : state and perspectivesSamir Đug, Nusret Drešković, 2012, original scientific article Abstract: Bosnia and Herzegovina is distinguished by a very unique mosaic of high biodiversity level. However, current development activities and initiatives for construction of new dams, together with activities in the forestry sector throughout the country, emphasizes the need for establishment of new protected areas in all major ecosystem types that should be ecologically viable and effectively managed. A review of the history of protected areas and administration developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina provide useful input for analysis. However, the data on the current state and size of protected areas in the country are obsolate and inaccurate. The results of the analysis have shown that in spite of a very high biodiversity level, Bosnia and Herzegovina managed to designate only 2.6% of its territory as protected areas, which is far below regional and European level. Lack of protected areas system is one of the main direct threats to biodiversity conservation. The primary objective of establishment of protected area network (PAN) in Bosnia and Herzegovina is to ensure conservation of valuable natural areas, which contain representatives of all main ecosystem types that could be found in the country. Only in this way, sustainable conservation of biodiversity could be achieved. 9. The role of the process organizational structure in the development of intrapreneurship in large companiesAdisa Delić, Sabina Đonlagić Alibegović, Mersiha Mešanović, 2016, original scientific article Abstract: Modern companies’ business environments have become increasingly complex, dynamic, and uncertain as a consequence of globalization and the rapid development of information communications technology. Companies are urged to increase their flexibility in order to keep their competitiveness in the global market. The affirmation of intrapreneurship becomes one of the basic ways for achieving higher adaptability and competitiveness of large companies in the modern business environment. In this context, the choice of an organizational solution that improves the development of entrepreneurial orientation and increases employee entrepreneurship and innovativeness becomes an important task for large companies. Research studies and business practices have indicated that various types of modern organizational forms enable the development of intrapreneurship. Therefore, the main aim of this paper is to identify dominant characteristics of organizational solutions and analyse their influence on the development of intrapreneurship in large companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). The research results indicate that current organizational characteristics are not favourable for the development of intrapreneurship in large BiH companies and that improvement is necessary in order to create an enabling environment for intrapreneurship and innovativeness. Based on these findings, recommendations for appropriate organizational changes are presented that might result in a more intensive development of intrapreneurship in large BiH companies.
