Analysis and synthesis of theoretical and practical implications of case management model and notationMateja Bule, Gregor Polančič, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: Case Management Model and Notation (CMMN) is a graphical notation used to model less predictable, highly flexible processes that may behave differently in each instance. It uses an event-centred approach and expands on what can be modelled with procedural modelling notations. Nearly a decade since the occurrence of CMMN, its practical use is questionable. We performed this research to identify possible reasons for this and to classify the potential advantages and disadvantages of CMMN. With the aforementioned objectives, we conducted a systematic literature review, which provided a broad insight into the state of the investigated object along with techniques for analysing qualitative data, coding, and successive approximation. From an initial set of 942 articles, 43 remain relevant. The results of the analysis and synthesis of the obtained data from relevant articles were generalised codes, which were used to explicitly answer the research questions. The results indicate that CMMN has good foundations in the declarative modelling approach and within the Case Management paradigm. Nevertheless, some issues were identified with the notation and elements of CMMN and with its complement—Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN). Spletni časovnik: aplikacija za upravljanje ur in razporeditev dela zaposlenih v gostinstvu : diplomsko deloDomen Kuzma, 2024, undergraduate thesis Abstract: V diplomski nalogi smo v teoretičnem delu opisali osnove poslovnih procesov in natančneje predstavili faze upravljanja le-teh. Temu je sledil praktični del diplomske naloge, katerega cilj je bil digitalizirati zastarel proces v izbranem podjetju. Po analizi obstoječega procesa smo s pomočjo BPMN notacije izdelali diagram izvedbe prenovljenega procesa. Proces smo nato implementirali in opisali, katere tehnologije smo uporabili za izdelavo. Na koncu smo našo novo spletno aplikacijo tudi testirali na končnih uporabnikih in našo rešitev analizirali z oceno uporabnosti sistema - SUS (System Usability Scale) analizo. 4. An experimental investigation of BPMN-based corporate communications modelingGregor Polančič, Boštjan Orban, 2023, original scientific article Abstract: Purpose
Despite corporate communications having an immense impact on corporate success, there is a lack of dedicated techniques for their management and visualization. A potential strategy is to apply business process management (BPM) approach with business process model and notation (BPMN) modeling techniques.
Design/methodology/approach
The goal of this study was to gain empirical insights into the cognitive effectiveness of BPMN-based corporate communications modeling. To this end, experimental research was performed in which subjects tested two modeling notations – standardized BPMN conversation diagrams and a BPMN extension with corporate communications-specific concepts.
Findings
Standard conversation diagrams were demonstrated to be more time-efficient for designing and interpreting diagrams. However, the subjects made significantly fewer mistakes when interpreting the diagrams modeled in the BPMN extension. Subjects also evolved positive perceptions toward the proposed extension.
Practical implications
BPMN-based corporate communications modeling may be applied to organizations to depict how formal communications are or should be performed consistently, effectively and transparently by following and integrating with BPM approaches and modeling techniques.
Originality/value
The paper provides empirical insights into the cognitive effectiveness of corporate communications modeling based on BPMN and positions the corresponding models into typical process architecture. Primerjalna analiza obstoječega in priporočenega SAP S/4 HANA procesa planiranja proizvodnjeSavin Svit Bošnjak, 2023, undergraduate thesis Abstract: Izdelava modelov procesov in njihova primerjava z obstoječim in željenim stanjem postajajo vse bolj uporabni, še posebno takrat, ko podjetje prenavlja informacijski sistem, na katerem upravlja večino opravil, ki se izvaja v njem. V postopku prenove informacijskega sistema je trenutno podjetje Helios TBLUS d.o.o., ki želi vedeti, če so procesi, ki jih izvajajo, primerljivi s SAP-ovo najboljšo prakso. Za prikaz in primerjanje procesov se je podjetje odločilo za uporabo programske rešitve za modeliranje procesov SAP Signavio Process Manager. Za izvajanje analize procesov smo se odločili za proces iz planiranja proizvodnje, in sicer iz primera naročila na zalogo, saj je teh primerov znotraj podjetja največ. Simulacija in analiza procesa sta pokazali, da je trenutno stanje dovolj dobro, da se ga uvede v novo okolje. 6. Analiza avtomatizacije poslovnih procesov z microsoft power platformŽan Korpar, 2023, master's thesis Abstract: Microsoft Power Platform je platforma, ki omogoča digitalizacijo in avtomatizacijo poslovnih procesov. Digitalizacija med drugimi poveča učinkovitost podjetja in izboljša interakcijo s strankami, avtomatizacija pa zmanjša možnost človeških napak in stroške. Ključne komponente platforme so Power BI, Power Automate in Dynamics 365. V sklopu magistrskega dela smo analizirali vzpostavljen sistem v izbranem podjetju. S pomočjo KPI-jev smo primerjali poslovanje pred in po uvedbi le-tega. Uvedba Power Platform je v podjetju izboljšala nadzor nad uporabniki, povečala število aktivnosti in avtomatsko obnovljenih pogodb, ter izboljšala odzivni čas podpore strankam. Power Platform lahko torej izboljša učinkovitost podjetja in s tem konkurenčnost na trgu. Digitalizacija poslovnega procesa za naročilo in nakup prevoza : diplomsko deloTim Mori, 2022, undergraduate thesis Abstract: V diplomski nalogi smo v teoretičnem delu poudarili, kaj je pomen in namen digitalizacije poslovnih procesov, predstavili korake digitalizacije poslovnega procesa ter opisali grafično notacijo BPMN (Business Process Model And Notation) za modeliranje poslovnih procesov. Pri izdelavi naloge smo si zastavili cilj, da bi z digitalizacijo poslovnega procesa naročilo in nakup prevoza podjetju Avtoprevozništvo Topler omogočili, da bi postalo konkurenčno ostalim sorodnim podjetjem na trgu. Na osnovi analize poslovnega procesa in izdelanih modelih poslovnega procesa (AS – IS in TO – BE) s pomočjo notacije BPMN v orodju Signavio smo razvili spletno rešitev za uporabnike, ki želijo naročiti prevoz. Rešitev ponuja različne možnosti uporabe neregistriranim uporabnikom – gostom in registriranim uporabnikom, kateri lahko na enem mestu opravijo vse korake, od povpraševanja za prevoz do nakupa prevoza. Hkrati pa spletna rešitev podjetju ponuja lažji način za pregled rezervacije prevozov. Po izdelavi končne rešitve smo s končnimi uporabniki preverili še uporabnost rešitve. 8. Analiza uspešnosti optične prepoznave elementov BPMN : magistrsko deloSlavica Jagečić, 2019, master's thesis Abstract: Magistrsko delo predstavlja postopek izdelave modela za prepoznavo ročno risanih BPMN elementov ter pridobitev rezultatov (%) uspešnosti njihove prepoznave. Za pomoč pri razvoju modela za prepoznavo elementov BPMN smo uporabili ogrodje TensorFlow. Opravili smo pregled literature, predstavili obstoječe rešitve, razvite na podlagi optične prepoznave in strojnega učenja. Razložili smo osnovne gradnike BPMN (standard BPMN 2.0.) in nekatere od teh elementov vključili v proces analize uspešnosti razpoznave s pomočjo mobilne aplikacije, izdelane v okviru naloge in razvite v okolju Angular.js, v katero smo vključili izdelani TensorFlow model, ki je zmožen prepoznavati BPMN elemente. V analizi smo zapisali ugotovitve, ki smo jih pridobili v raziskovalnemu delu na podlagi vprašalnikov. Ugotovitve, pridobljene v analizi, so pokazale da je mobilna aplikacija zmožna prepoznavati določene elemente BPMN, vendar ne vseh. Prav tako smo podali smernice za nadaljnje delo. 9. Improving comprehension of process diagrams with Graphical highlightsGregor Jošt, 2018, doctoral dissertation Abstract: The main purpose of business process diagrams is to facilitate the communication between the process-related stakeholders, which directly affects the decision-making. For this reason, they must be easy to understand. However, this is often challenging to achieve, since business process diagrams can become large and complex. This, in turn, can negatively affect their correctness and understandability. The goal of this doctoral thesis was to propose and investigate an approach that makes business process diagrams appear less complex, without changing the corresponding diagrammatic notation or the business process diagrams themselves. This was done by manipulating the opacity of graphical elements in order to emphasize the important parts of a business process diagram by lowlighting the irrelevant ones. The proposed solution, named Emphasis, implemented with opacity-based Graphical Highlight pattern, abbreviated as simply Graphical highlights, was subsequently applied to sample business process diagram, modeled in Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN). The analysis demonstrated that the structural complexity of the business process diagrams decreased when the proposed solution was applied. Afterwards, a Web application prototype was implemented, which supports the proposed set of Graphical highlights.
Furthermore, we empirically validated whether Graphical highlights positively impact cognitive effectiveness of business process diagrams, and if the users will find the prototype implementation useful. To this end, an experimental research, which included 85 participants, was conducted. The participants were randomly assigned in either the treatment group (Graphical highlights diagram representation approach), or the control group (conventional diagram representation approach). In accordance with the definition of cognitive effectiveness, speed, ease, and accuracy of answering 26 comprehension questions were observed, along with the perceived usefulness of the prototype. The results of the analysis demonstrated that participants who used Graphical highlights significantly outperformed those that used the conventional approach in all experiment's observations.
We can conclude that using Graphical highlights increases the cognitive effectiveness of business process diagrams, while the corresponding prototype implementation is perceived as being useful. Namen dela je ugotoviti, katero izmed orodij najbolje podpira optimizacijo poslovnih procesov, ter identificirati ključne lastnosti in razlike med orodji. Iz tega razloga se je izbralo pet orodij, ki se jih je analiziralo in predstavilo. V praktičnem delu je izveden eksperiment, z namenom prikazati razlike med orodji.
