Telesna aktivnost, antioksidanti in oksidativni stres

Abstract: Med telesno aktivnostjo se sproščajo reaktivne zvrsti; obseg njihovega nastanka je povezan z značilnostmi telesne vadbe. Sproščanje reaktivnih zvrsti, ki presega zmožnost antioksidativne obrambe, izzove oksidativni stres. Ravnovesje med obsegom sproščanja reaktivnih zvrsti in antioksidativno obrambo je v fizioloških razmerah pomaknjeno nekoliko na stran oksidativnih procesov. Dve skrajnosti telesne aktivosti omenjeno ravnovesje rušita: akutna, visoko intenzivna telesna aktivnost in telesna neaktivnost. Izziv vrednotenja stanja oksidativnega stresa v organizmu je izjemno aktualen. Izsledki lastnih raziskav na področju antioksidantov usmerjajo k nujnosti interdisciplinarnega pristopa k tovrstnim raziskavam. Rezultati raziskave so primerjani z dognanji raziskovalcev v svetovnem prostoru, zato so predstavljena znanja izrazito aktualna. Z namenom, da se spodbudi radovednost in navdušenje do raziskovanja, vsebina še posebej nagovarja populacijo mladih, predvsem študentov. Izobraževanje o ključni vlogi telesne aktivnosti pri ohranjanju homeostaze in posledično zdravja in dolgoživosti spada med obvezne vsebine predmetov na vseh študijskih programih univerz in visokošolskih institucij. Športne igre naj postanejo temeljni povezovalni dejavnik v izobraževalnem procesu, izkustveno izobraževanje naj povezuje telesno aktivnost s sleherno vsebino predmetov. Malo nam v življenju koristijo obširna znanja, če ignoriramo osnove, ki trajnostno določajo zdravje in dobro počutje slehernega posameznika. Izgradnja uspešne kariere naj vselej temelji na redni telesni aktivnosti zmerne intenzivnosti.

Business plan for a Zen garden

Abstract: The placement of a theme park in the form of a Zen garden, as a business opportunity in the Slovenian rural area, is discussed. The design of the garden, with all the major points of a standard business plan, is accurately presented, with a description of the business, branch, and services, market analysis, marketing strategy, financial projections, and a plan of the work and activities. The financial aspect is presented as the amount of investment, net present value, and internal rate of return. The amount of investment is estimated at € 14.891, which should be reimbursed within 4 years of operations. The estimated internal rate of return is estimated at 16.86%. Part of the study is the market analysis - conduction of a survey into knowledge of, and interest in, Zen and Zen gardens. The principles of landscape ecology are respected, as the Zen garden would be set in the woods and will blend seamlessly into the landscape.

Chemical and fruit skin colour markers for simple quality control of tomato fruits

Abstract: The orientation of this research was to evaluate the classic parameters regarding the external and internal quality of tomato fruits cv. ‘Brilliant‘ at different stages of maturity and to define the dynamics of their changes during the ripening in storage at 18 °C. Principal component analysis (PCA) and multivariate canonical discriminant analysis (DA) were used to classify tomato samples according to quality (internal and external) and nutritional value based on fruit mass, fruit skin colour, contents of soluble solids (SS), total titratable acids (TTA), ascorbic acid (AA), and total antioxidant potential (TAP). Several methods are usedfor determining AA content and TAP in plant samples. A simple routine method, direct redox titration with iodate solution and spectrophotometric determination of TAPSP, as described by Singleton and Rossi, also called total phenols, were used respectively. The results show that the stage of maturity (based on fruit skin colour) strongly determines the quality and nutritional value of the tomato fruit. Tomatoes harvested at table maturity (red colour, index a*/b* ≥ 0.85) have a significantly higher nutritional value (in terms of antioxidants – TAPSP and AA content) and overall quality than those harvested at an earlier maturity stage and then ripened in storage. This brings out the importance of short food supply chains and, from the viewpoint of overall fruit quality, it raises doubt about harvesting before reaching table maturity. On the other hand, it is necessary to be extremely attentive when determining optimal maturity, because when the plant becomes over-ripe or when stored, the nutritional value and overall quality decrease drastically. Besides the colour parameters, AA content is the most important chemical marker for a simple quality control. By using a simple and reliable analytical method for determining AA content, such as direct redox titratiation, the monitoring of tomato fruit quality could also be easily performed in situ.

Distribution of zinc in vineyard areas treated with zinc containing phytopharmaceuticals

Abstract: Zinc concentration in vineyard soil is, in general, increased markedly by the long term application of zinc containing fungicides. The most significant source of Zn are nowadays dithiocarbamate based fungicides, e.g. Antracol. The concentration of total zinc and EDTA and ammonium lactate (AL) extractable Zn in soils are evaluated together with the concentration of Zn in different inorganic fertilizers and in fungicides. the results of the study indicate in the observed vineyard areas a long term accumulation of zinc appears. The study was made in vineyards of Kalvarija and Meranovo (Maribor, Slovenia).

Comparison of methods for determination of polyphenols in wine by HPLC-UV/VIS, LC/MS/MS and spectrophotometry

Abstract: Phenolic antioxidants are usually grouped into flavonoids and non-flavonoids, according to their structure. With regard to the tannic character, phenolic antioxidants are further subdivided to tannic phenols and non-tannic phenols. Collectively, these compounds contribute to the high antioxidant capacity of wine. In this work, we compare determination of gallic acid, catechin, epicatechin, resveratrol, quercetin, dihydrobenzoic acid, sinapic acid, vanillic acid, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, ferullic acid, ellagic acid, p-coumaric acid and caftaric acid in 141 wine samples using two liquid chromatographic methods and detection systems, i.e. with UV detection and mass-spectrometric detection. In addition, we applied the conventional Folin-Ciocalteu spectrophotometric method for determination of the total phenolic content in wine samples and compared the results with those obtained using the chromatographic methods. Despite satisfactory correlations statistically significant differences between HPLC-UV/VIS and LC/MS/MS were established, which could be related to coelution not detectable with UV/VIS detectors. The correlations between results of the spectrophotometric method and sum of LC/MS/MS determinations are not satisfactory and are different for white, red, and rosé wines.

Sledenje onesnaženja s cinkom v ekosistemu vinograda

Abstract: V monografiji je na zadosten in potrebno celovit način predstavljena problematika sledenja težke kovine – cinka, ki se v ekosistem vinograda vnaša z uporabo organokovinskih fitofarmacevtskih pripravkov. Cink je sestavni del aktivne komponente Antracol-a, ki se v vinogradništvu veliko uporablja kot kontaktni fungicid. Raziskava potrjuje, da je povečana vsebnost cinka v vinogradniških tleh v glavnem posledica dolgoletne uporabe organokovinskih fitofarmacevtskih pripravkov. Z osredotočanjem na problematiko tal v vinogradu, občutljivost ravnovesja v antropogeno spremenjenem ekosistemu, kemizem cinka v tleh ter nenazadnje tudi s smernicami za obnovo onesnaženih tal je v monografiji celostno zaobjet trajnostno naravnan pogled na obravnavano tematiko. Rezultati raziskave so primerjani z dognanji raziskovalcev v svetovnem prostoru zato so predstavljena znanja izrazito aktualna. Z zavedanjem o naravnem krogotoku vnesenih snovi v tla in prehajanju le-teh v prehranjevalno verigo, želi vsebina monografije nagovoriti cenjeni avditorij o pomembnosti sledenja onesnaženja v okolju in nujnosti takojšnjega ukrepanja.
