IoT-based off-grid solar power supply : design, implementation, and case study of energy consumption control using forecasted solar irradiation

Abstract: This article presents the development and implementation of an IoT-enabled, off-grid solar power supply prototype designed to power a range of electrical devices. The developed system comprises a Photovoltaic panel, a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) charger, a 2.5 kWh/24 V high-performance LiFePO4 battery bank with a Battery Management System, an embedded controller with IoT connectivity, and DC/DC and DC/AC converters. The PV panel serves as the primary energy source, with the MPPT controller optimizing battery charging, while the DC/DC and DC/AC converters supply power to the connected electrical devices. The article includes a case study of a developed platform for powering an information and advertising system. The system features a predictive energy management algorithm, which optimizes the appliance operation based on daily solar irradiance forecasts and real-time battery State-of-Charge monitoring. The IoT-enabled controller obtains solar irradiance forecasts from an online meteorological service via API calls and uses these data to estimate energy availability for the next day. Using this prediction, the system schedules and prioritizes the operations of connected electrical devices dynamically to optimize the performance and prevent critical battery discharge. The IoT-based controller is equipped with both Wi-Fi and an LTE modem, enabling communication with online services via wireless or cellular networks.

Modulacijske strategije za 6-fazni razsmernik

Abstract: V magistrskem delu smo raziskovali različne modulacijske strategije za šestfazni razsmernik, ki se uporabljajo v sistemih močnostne elektronike. Takšni razsmerniki imajo več prednosti pred trifaznimi, in sicer boljšo porazdelitev toka, manjše harmonsko popačenje in večjo zanesljivost delovanja. Osredotočili smo se na sinusno pulznoširinsko modulacijo (SPŠM), nadmodulacijo ter dodajanje tretje in pete harmonske komponente za izboljšanje izhodne napetosti. S pomočjo simulacij v MATLAB/Simulink okolju smo analizirali, kako različne strategije vplivajo na kakovost signala in skupno harmonsko popačenje (THD). Poleg simulacij smo izvedli tudi praktične meritve na razsmerniškem vezju. Rezultati so pokazali, da je z ustrezno modulacijo možno doseči boljši izkoristek napetosti in hkrati ohraniti sprejemljivo raven popačenja. Delo ponuja uporabne smernice za izbiro modulacije glede na potrebe aplikacije.

Lokalizacija, zaznavanje objektov in navigacija robota FarmBeast v ograjenem okolju

Abstract: Magistrsko delo zajema razvoj in implementacijo algoritmov za lokalizacijo, navigacijo in zaznavanje objektov v ograjenem okolju. Ti so bili implementirani na robotu FarmBeast, ki je bil uporabljen na tekmovanju FRE 2025. Pri delovanju sistema so bili uporabljeni senzorji LiDAR, RGBD kamere in IMU. Za načrtovanje poti so bile primerjane metode A*, D* in hibridni A* z nadaljnjo implementacijo A* in okrnjene verzije hibridne A*. Podobno so bile ocenjene metode vodenja PD, PID in pure pursuit ter na podlagi meritev implementirana pure pursuit. Lokalizacija je bila izvedena z uporabo obstoječe knjižnice Hector SLAM, ki omogoča kartiranje okolice z enovrstičnim LiDAR-jem. Rezultati potrjujejo učinkovitost uporabljenih algoritmov in metod, kar dokazuje tudi doseženo 2. mesto na tekmovanju FRE 2025.

Rotacijski manipulator za delovne stroje: zamenjava hidravličnega gonila s servo-elektromotornim pogonom : diplomsko delo

Abstract: V diplomski nalogi smo analizirali obstoječi hidravlični pogon rotacijskega manipulatorja, pri katerem hidromotor MR 50 prek polžastega gonila ustvarja navor okrog 2300 Nm in izhodno hitrost 10 in 15 obr/min. Ugotovili smo, da sistem dosega želeno zmogljivost, vendar so energijski izkoristki nizki, vzdrževanje drago, natančno pozicioniranje pa oteženo zaradi mehanskih zračnosti in odsotnosti povratne informacije. Z namenom izboljšave smo zasnovali digitalni dvojček sistema v okolju SolidWorks Motion Analysis in izvedli simulacijo togih teles, s katero smo potrdili izračunane navore ter ocenili mehanske izgube. Na podlagi simulacij smo določili zahtevane parametre za zamenjavo pogona in izbrali elektromotorno rešitev z motorji Parker GVM ter pripadajočimi krmilniki serije MCF. Predlagana rešitev ohranja izhodni navor ≥ 2300 Nm, izboljša energijsko učinkovitost in omogoča natančno elektronsko vodenje hitrosti in položaja. V zaključku podajamo priporočila za izdelavo prototipa, eksperimentalno validacijo in nadaljnje optimizacije sistema.

Razvoj pametnega prezračevalnega sistema in priprava za certificiranje : magistrsko delo

Abstract: Zaradi naraščajočih cen energije postaja problematika prezračevanja brez izgube toplote vedno bolj pomembna. V magistrskem delu je predstavljen celoten postopek, od zasnove do prodaje izdelka, ki to omogoča – lokalne pametne prezračevalne enote. Glavni motiv za lastni razvoj so bile številne pomanjkljivosti obstoječih sistemov na trgu, ki smo jih prepoznali z metodo analize. S kombinacijo metod programiranja, CAD-a, načrtovanja elektronike, izdelave mobilne aplikacije in vzpostavitve strežnika za prenos podatkov smo razvili končni izdelek. Po pridobitvi CE certifikata ima ta izdelek tudi možnost prodaje v EU.

Pregled delovanja in nadgradnja brusilnega stroja večjih dimenzij

Abstract: V tem magistrskem delu je predstavljen proces predelave zastarelega brusilnega stroja, zasnova programa za upravljanje tega stroja in zasnova varnostnih elementov za zaščito delovnega okolja. Predstavljeno bo osnovno delovanje samega stroja in programa za nadzor, omenili pa bomo še probleme, s katerimi smo se srečali pri predelavi, in možne nadgradnje, ki bi lahko izboljšale delovanje stroja. Opisali bomo tudi celoten varnostni sistem, njegovo delovanje ter način, kako z njim minimiziramo možnost nezgod pri obratovanju stroja.

Razvoj elektronike formule študent : magistrsko delo

Abstract: Namen magistrskega dela je opisati postopek razvoja tiskanih elektronskih vezij uporabljenih v formulah študent univerze v Mariboru. V sklopu zaključnega dela smo se spoznali z zahtevami pravilnika formule študent, razvojem elektronskih tiskanih vezij VCU, armaturna plošča, zavorna luč, BSPD, TSAL in razelektritveno vezje ter samo izdelavo in testiranje tiskanih vezij. Zaključno delo bo služilo prihodnjim generacijam ekipe UNI Maribor GPE pri razvoju in razumevanju elektronskih tiskanih vezij za nove dirkalnike. Prav tako bo služilo tudi vsem ostalim, ki bi želeli razviti svoja tiskana vezja za vozila.

Post-fault energy usage optimization for multilevel inverter with integrated battery

Abstract: This paper presents a novel sorting algorithm for modular multilevel inverters (MMCs) with integrated batteries, designed to ensure the uninterrupted operation of electric vehicles (EVs) under post-fault conditions. The proposed system structure consists of an MMC with four full-bridge modules per phase, where one module acts as a spinning reserve during normal operation. The algorithm addresses a single switch fault per phase by operating the faulted module in half-bridge mode, ensuring all batteries remain operational and maintaining full power output and battery capacity without any noticeable changes for the vehicle operator. Unlike conventional fault-tolerant strategies that often reduce power output or disable affected modules, the proposed algorithm isolates the faulty switch while preserving system output. This approach avoids derating and eliminates the need for immediate maintenance, enabling the EV to continue operating under fault conditions. Simulation and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the algorithm under a single switch fault scenario, demonstrating its ability to maintain autonomy and consistent power delivery. This work demonstrates a fault-tolerant MMC principle, offering a robust and scalable solution for enhancing reliability and user satisfaction in EV power systems.

Hardware-in-the-loop simulations: a historical overview of engineering challenges

Abstract: The design of modern industrial products is further improved through the hardware-inthe-loop (HIL) simulation. Realistic simulation is enabled by the closed loop between the hardware under test (HUT) and real-time simulation. Such a system involves a field programmable gate array (FPGA) and digital signal processor (DSP). An HIL model can bypass serious damage to the real object, reduce debugging cost, and, finally, reduce the comprehensive effort during the testing. This paper provides a historical overview of HIL simulations through different engineering challenges, i.e., within automotive, power electronics systems, and different industrial drives. Various platforms, such as National Instruments, dSPACE, Typhoon HIL, or MATLAB Simulink Real-Time toolboxes and Speedgoat hardware systems, offer a powerful tool for efficient and successful investigations in different fields. Therefore, HIL simulation practice must begin already during the university’s education process to prepare the students for professional engagements in the industry, which was also verified experimentally at the end of the paper.

Control of an inductive power transfer system using a double coil structure

Abstract: This paper presents the design of the control of the system using a double DD coil structure. The double DD coil is a layered coil structure that consists of two single DD coils, rotated to each other by 90◦. A large-signal and small-signal model of the proposed IPT system are designed for control synthesis. The small-signal model is derived from the large-signal using harmonic approximation and the extended describing functions (EDF). For the small-signal model, voltage and current control schemes were proposed for the purpose of wireless battery charging. The robustness of the control is tested on a small-scale IPT system using double DD coils and resistive load. The results are evaluated at different reference voltages, currents, loads and coupling coefficients.
