1. Expressing added value in food supply chainsNejc Zidar, Jernej Turk, Jernej Prišenk, 2023, original scientific article Abstract: Value-added food supply chains are chains that maintain positive social, environmental, and community values which are integrated into the production process from the primary producer to the final consumer, ensuring economic, social, and environmental sustainability, thus forming a sustainable agricultural and food production system. The evaluation of the value added in each chain is based on indicators, which are a tool to measure changes in the actual situation or to show performance trends in achieving the progress set by the objectives. The presented indicators are based on publicly available statistics and foreign literature that allow measuring value added in specific livestock chains at aggregate level (beef production, pork production and dairy production) and are based on publicly available statistics in the Republic of Slovenia. The need to produce indicators of value added in livestock food supply chains arises from the large differences in structural changes in the sector itself and in the development and economic performance of the various livestock industries. 4. Theoretical and experimental investigations of a water hammer in Sava river Kaplan turbine hydropower plantsAnton Bergant, Jernej Mazij, Jošt Pekolj, 2024, original scientific article Abstract: This paper deals with critical flow regimes that may induce an unacceptable water hammer in the Sava River Kaplan turbine hydropower plants. The rigid water hammer model is introduced first. The computational results are then compared with the results of measurements in two distinct hydropower plants (HPP): (i) The refurbished and upgraded Medvode HPP, and (ii) The newest Brežice HPP. Comparisons of the computed and measured results are examined for normal operating regimes. The water hammer in the two power plants is controlled by appropriate adjustment of the wicket gates and runner blades closing/opening manoeuvres. The agreement between the computed and measured results is reasonable. 5. Fatigue behaviour of copper-brazed 316L stainless steelJernej Kralj, Blaž Hanželič, Srečko Glodež, Janez Kramberger, Roman Satošek, Branko Nečemer, 2024, original scientific article Abstract: The plate heat exchanger (PHE) is a component that provides heat to be transferred from hot water to domestic cold water with-out mixing them with high efficiency. Over the lifetime of the PHE, cyclic pressure acts on the brazing points and the plates, andthis can lead to fatigue failure. The fatigue behaviour of the PHE, designed by using copper-brazed 316L (also known as 1.4404) stainless steel, was investigated by performing fatigue tests to obtain the S-N curve of the analysed brazed joint. The fatigue tests were performed on a Vibrophore 100 testing machine under the load ratio R= 0.1 for different values of calculated ampli-tude stress. Based on the obtained experimental results, an appropriate material model of the analysed brazed joint was created, which was validated with a numerical calculation in the framework of a program code Ansys. A validated material model canthen be used for the subsequent numerical analysis of the PHE. 7. Diagnosis, clinical presentation and management of celiac disease in children and adolescents in PolandJoanna Bierła, Anna Szaflarska-Popławska, Urszula Grzybowska-Chlebowczyk, Beata Oralewska, Marta Cyba, Grzegorz Oracz, Ewa Konopka, Božena Cukrowska, Małgorzata Syczewska, Honorata Kołodziejczyk, Petra Rižnik, Jernej Dolinšek, 2024, original scientific article Abstract: Celiac disease (CD) is a chronic immune-mediated disorder triggered by the ingestion of gluten in genetically predisposed individuals, affecting about 1% of the general population in the developed world. In 2012, the European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) recommendations for CD diagnoses in children and adolescents were introduced, allowing the “no-biopsy” approach if certain criteria were met. This approach was also confirmed in the revised guidelines published in 2020. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess—over a one-year period—the clinical presentations and current status of the management of children and adolescents diagnosed with CD in Poland. Medical records of children and adolescents, newly diagnosed with CD in 2022/2023 in three medical centers in Poland, were involved. Gastroenterologists completed the specific anonymous web-based forms developed in the CD SKILLS project, including data routinely assessed at individual visits about the diagnostic approach and clinical presentation of the disease. Our study assessed 100 patients (56% girls) with an age range 1.6–18.0 years. We found that 98% of patients were serologically tested prior to a CD diagnosis and 58% of patients were diagnosed using the “no-biopsy” approach. In the analyzed group, 40% belonged to a known risk group, only 22% had annual screening before the CD diagnosis (the longest for 9 years), and 19% showed no symptoms at the time of the CD diagnosis. Our research confirmed the applicability of the “no-biopsy” approach for the diagnosis of CD in children and adolescents in Poland, and also showed changes in the clinical picture of CD. Moreover, we highlight the need to introduce broad CD serological screening in risk groups of the Polish population. 8.
V empiričnem delu bomo spoznali in proučili družinsko podjetje Lesdom d.o.o. in njegovo možnost razvoja. 9. Using a region-based convolutional neural network (R-CNN) for potato segmentation in a sorting processJaka Verk, Jernej Hernavs, Simon Klančnik, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: This study focuses on the segmentation part in the development of a potato-sorting system that utilizes camera input for the segmentation and classification of potatoes. The key challenge addressed is the need for efficient segmentation to allow the sorter to handle a higher volume of potatoes simultaneously. To achieve this, the study employs a region-based convolutional neural network (R-CNN) approach for the segmentation task, while trying to achieve more precise segmentation than with classic CNN-based object detectors. Specifically, Mask R-CNN is implemented and evaluated based on its performance with different parameters in order to achieve the best segmentation results. The implementation and methodologies used are thoroughly detailed in this work. The findings reveal that Mask R-CNN models can be utilized in the production process of potato sorting and can improve the process. 10.
