VPLIV NUKLEATORJEV NA LASTNOSTI POLIPROPILENA

Abstract: V magistrski nalogi smo proučevali vpliv α, β in kombinacije α/β nukleatorjev na reološke, termične in mehanske lastnosti polipropilen homopolimera (PPH) in polipropilen kopolimera (PPC). Reološke lastnosti smo opazovali z meritvami indeksa tečenja (MFI - melt flow index), termične lastnosti smo proučevali z diferenčno dinamično kalorimetrijo (DSC - differential scanning calorimetry), s trgalnim preizkusom smo proučevali mehanske lastnosti. Nukleatorji so imeli večji vpliv na reološke lastnosti v primeru modifikacije PPC, na PPH je imel vpliv samo dodatek α/β - nukleatorja. Z dodatkom nukleatorjev k PPH in PPC smo opazili povišanje temperature kristalizacije. Prav tako smo v primeru modifikacije PPC povišali stopnjo kristaliničnosti. Pri PPH smo z dodatkom β - nukleatorja opazili padec kristaliničnosti. Temperaturni pik taljenja se je, zaradi promocije β - kristalitov, v primeru β - nukleatorja znižal, ostali vzorci so imeli pik v področju α - kristalitov. Vzorec PPHα1 je povišal čas oksidativne razgradnje (OIT - oxidative induction time), vsi ostali opazovani vzorci so ga znižali. Rezultati kažejo na povišanje togosti modificiranega PPH (razen v primeru β - nukleatorja) ter modificiranega PPC in zmanjšanje natezne trdnosti na meji plastičnosti (razen v primeru β - nukleatorja) za oba modificirana PP. Opazili smo povezanost trdote s togostjo; β - nukleator je v PPH znižal togost in povišal trdoto. Pri modifikaciji PPC so vsi nukleatorji povišali trdoto.

Morphology of polypropylene/silica nano- and microcomposites

Abstract: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of different silica grades on the structure and morphology of isotactic polypropylene (iPP)/silica composites to better understand their structure-property relationships. Isotactic polypropylene composites with 2, 4, 6, 8 vol % of added silica fillers differing in particle size (micro- vs. nanosilica) and surface modification (untreated vs. treated surface) were prepared by nonisothermal compression molding and characterized by different methods. The addition of all silica fillers grades to the iPP matrix significantly influenced the spherulitic morphology, while phase characteristics of the iPP matrix seemed to be unaffected. Surface modification of silica fillers exhibited stronger effects on spherulite size than size of silica particles. Nonpolar silica particles, more miscible or compatible with iPP chains than polar silica particles, enabled better spherulitic growth. The spherulite sizes tended to reach equal values at 8 vol % of added silicas showing that spherulite size became independent of filler concentration and surface modification above optimum filler concentration.

The adhesion phenomena in polypropylene/wollastonite composites

Abstract: Modification of polypropylene (PP) with wollastonite fillers was investigated in this paper. Three types of different silane pretreated wollastonite mineral filler were used for preparation of binary PP/wollastonite composites. The composite samples were homogenized in a Brabender Plasti-Corder kneading chamber and compression moulded into plates on a laboratory press. The adhesion between the wollastonite fillers used in this study and the PP matrix was predicted on the basis of the calculated adhesion parameters (work of adhesion, interfacial free energy and spreading coefficient) obtained by the surface free energy of pure materials. The contact angle method was used to determine surface free energy of components. The obtained values of adhesion parameters at the interface in the composites were correlated with mechanical properties as well as morphology observations of corresponding composites and were proved to be in relatively good agreement with the mechanical property measurements. Stronger adhesion in investigated composites has reflected in higher yield stress and tensile strength at break but in lower elongation at break and impact resistance.

Optimizacija polimernega materiala za ohišje konektorja

Abstract: Polimerni kompoziti se zaradi svojih lastnosti čedalje več uporabljajo tudi v konstrukcijske namene. Namen magistrskega dela je bil preučevanje in karakterizacija toplotnih in mehanskih, ter lomno-mehanskih lastnosti različnih termoplastičnih polimernih kompozitov, ki bi lahko zamenjali trenutni uporabljeni material za izdelavo ohišja konektorja pri spajanju povoznih plošč. Izvedli smo DSC in DMA analizo za študij toplotnih lastnosti in natezni preizkus, preizkus udarne žilavosti po Charpyju in lomno-mehanski preizkus za preučevanje porušitve materiala. Ugotovili smo, da se v temperaturnem območju uporabe konektorja najbolje obnese termoplastični poliuretan ojačan z dolgimi steklenimi vlakni.
