From chaos to the absurd : existentialism for the 21st century
Boris Aberšek, 2024, original scientific article

Abstract: As Sartre pointed out, philosophical questions are questions that each generation must ask themselves because only this promotes the feeling of being alive, which is especially true for existential questions closely related to time-space, the moment, and our society. Sartre placed his philosophy of existentialism in wartime and the social conditions of the time at the beginning of the 20th century. We can equate these conditions with today's conditions; we are once again facing threats of war, and once again, we are facing chaotic conditions that increasingly lead to absurdity but are also entirely different. Today, at the beginning of the 21st century, the clarity and disambiguation of the 20th century no longer exist, as the relationships between beings and the world have drastically changed. We can observe that (1) the world is not one; there are two worlds, the physical and the cyber world and (2) being is not one; there are two beings (entities), human and AI-based forms of artificial life (ALF), between which there is a permanent tension. We advocate the thesis that in the society of the future, man must still play a master role; he must still be the being who will guide this society. Also, as Sartre claimed, each era must create its philosophy and consider real time–space. Responses to changes in this time–space also relate to existentialism in the 21st century. In this context, it is necessary to redefine the view of the future and the guidelines for the development of future society.

Abstract: Amidst growing migratory movements and hurdles of assimilation, the INTREF initiative strives to craft a comprehensive strategy for the schooling of refugee children, melding e-learning, emotional and social support, along with adaptable teaching methods. This endeavor learns on principles like linguistic diversity, cross-cultural skills, and customizing the educational journey, crucial for assimilation and triumph within academic settings. Studies indicate the indispensability of bespoke linguistic assistance, cognizance of cultural variances, and personalized educational tactics for the seamless school transition and societal assimilation of children in refuge. The project devised a survey instrument aimed at evaluating the baseline educational scenario in the participating nations and formulating education plans tailored to specific needs. This survey zeroes on four pivotal areas: linguistic proficiency, cross-cultural consciousness, embracing diversity, and pedagogical customization. Feedback from 31 students, 30 teachers and 28 parents revealed a pressing need for augmented linguistic aid in Slovenia, heightened cross-cultural understanding, and classroom method modification to enrich the academic experiences of culturally diverse children. The findings also underscore a discernible discrepancy between the perspectives of educators versus those of parents and children. The insights from this survey lay the groundwork for creating innovative instructional units and resources, finely adapted to the needs of children in refuge. By forging links between theoretical insights and practical application, as well as among various educational stakeholders, INTREF is ready to enrich the discourse and practices surrounding inclusivity, and endeavor made increasingly pertinent by the recent global disruptions, including the migratory dilemma and the COVID-19 outbreak.

Innovative professional learning communities and sustainable education practices through digital transformation
Maja Vičič Krabonja, Simona Kustec, Vesna Skrbinjek, Boris Aberšek, Andrej Flogie, 2024, original scientific article

Abstract: Education is the most important part of sustainable society development. Traditional approaches to permanent lifelong educator training often fail to produce lasting changes in teaching practices (UN, Goal 4). This paper examines how educator involvement in a professional learning community (PLC) ensures equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all and a sustainable digital transformation of the teaching and learning process. Participation in PLC and the use of contemporary learning environments positively impact the quality of educators’ work, thereby enhancing the overall educational process. This study utilised a quantitative methodology, employing both descriptive and inferential statistics to analyse the data. Results indicate that a balanced integration of formal PLC structures and guidance, combined with elements of a non-formal, broader PLC and external incentives and support (such as projects), can surpass mere exchanges of best practices, foster innovation, and support the sustainable digital transformation of educators. This approach leads to a sustainable shift in pedagogical paradigms. The PLC_IP model (focused on including digital technologies and effective teaching strategies) enhances collective educator efficacy, contributing to improved teaching quality. For PLCs to achieve sustainability, they must be dynamic entities that adapt to the evolving educational landscape, ensuring their continued relevance and impact with rising completion rates over time. Our findings underscore the importance of innovative PLCs in driving sustainable educational development and improvement and provide a framework for future research and practical applications in educational settings. In addition, PLCs can strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development (UN, Goal 17).

Empowering educators to teach online reading, learning, and comprehension skills on the example of ecological problems
Maja Kerneža, Metka Kordigel Aberšek, Hakan Sari, Metin Kiliç, Emre Öztürk, Boris Aberšek, Dejan Zemljak, 2023, professional article

Abstract: Reading and learning are changing rapidly in today's world, and educational systems sometimes fail to keep pace. To define the needs related to reading in the modern world, the Stavanger Declaration was written, stating that students should be taught online reading and learning strategies. Educators must also adapt to this. As part of the Learning, Teaching, and Training (LTT) activities, participants (21 individuals from different levels of education) were introduced to the Internet reciprocal teaching (IRT) method. The basis of this research was to find out whether we can empower educators to teach online reading, learning, and comprehension skills in a short training session using the ubiquitous topic of ecological problems as an example. We were also interested in whether a short program that empowers educators to use IRT in their classroom can influence teachers to develop students' digital literacy in their pedagogical work. The results show that the ecological issue, with its timeliness and universal presence in our lives, is an appropriate topic for educators to teach digital literacy. The participants were successful in solving the set tasks, and all of them answered that they would use the IRT method in their future pedagogical work.

Tehniško izobraževanje in inženirska pedagogika
Boris Aberšek, Andrej Flogie, 2019, scientific monograph

Abstract: Pri tehniških in inženirskih izobraževanjih se učenci in študentje učijo razumeti tehniko v njenih socialnih, ekonomskih in ekoloških kontekstih.

Implementation of the modern immersive learning model CPLM
Matej Veber, Igor Pesek, Boris Aberšek, 2022, original scientific article

Abstract: The digitalization of industrial processes is being driven forward worldwide. In parallel, the education system must also be transformed. Currently, education does not follow the opportunities and development of technologies. We can ask ourselves how we can integrate technologies into a traditional learning process or how we can adapt the learning process to these technologies. We focused on robotics education in secondary vocational education. The paper contains research results from a modern learning model that addresses student problem-solving using cyber-physical systems. We proposed a reference model for industrial robotics education in the 21st century based on an innovative cyber-physical didactic model (CPLM). We conducted procedure time measurements, questionnaire evaluations, and EEG evaluations. We could use VR to influence the improvement of spatial and visual memory. The more intense representation of the given information influences multiple centers in the brain and, thus, the formation of multiple neural connections. We can influence knowledge, learning more effectively with short-term training in the virtual world than with classical learning methods. From the studied resources, we can conclude that the newer approach to teaching robotics is not yet available in this form. The emerging modern technologies and the possibility of developing training in this area should be investigated further.

Ustvarjalnost in kreativnost osnovnošolskih učencev na tehniškem področju : magistrsko delo
Ivan Kojc, 2024, master's thesis

Abstract: Nadarjeni učenci pri tehniki in tehnologiji potrebujejo dejavnosti, ki jim omogočajo razvijanje tehnične ustvarjalnosti in kreativnosti. Učence smo testirali z modeliranim testom tehnične ustvarjalnosti in kreativnosti, ki smo ga sestavili s pomočjo Torranceovega testa ustvarjalnega mišljenja in z modeliranim testom tehnične nadarjenosti. V drugem delu smo ugotavljali raven ustvarjalnosti in kreativnosti z izdelavo izdelka oziroma modela. Zaradi zahtevnosti postopka in zagotovitve veljavnosti, zanesljivosti in objektivnosti smo vključili učence 4., 6. in 7. razreda.

Assessment of supporting visual learning technologies in the immersive VET cyber-physical learning model
Matej Veber, Igor Pesek, Boris Aberšek, 2023, original scientific article

Abstract: Humanity faces diverse technological, societal, and sociological challenges. Digitalization is being integrated into every aspect of our lives. Technologies are developing rapidly and the ways in which we live and learn are changing. Young people are acquiring information and learning in a different way than in the recent past. Education systems are no longer keeping up with the development of technology. Education systems need to adapt and introduce technologies that motivate students and ultimately contribute to higher learning goals. To this end, we need to develop modern learning models that support education and technological development. In previous research, we developed and evaluated a state-of-the-art learning model, the CPLM. We built on this with a new study, in which we assessed the difference between the cognitive activities of attention and meditation in students during the viewing of a classical educational video, a 360° video, and an AR app on a screen. We found that the 360° video had the greatest impact on students' attention and is consequently suitable for initially motivating students in the proposed learning model. We made a proposal for a modern educational model and possibilities for further research.

Razvoj in uporaba spletne aplikacije pri pouku v osnovni šoli : magistrsko delo
Matjaž Huter, 2024, master's thesis

Abstract: V današnjem času je uporaba informacijsko-komunikacijske tehnologije (IKT) v izobraževalnem procesu neizogibna.
