Development of a textile sheet mask design for facial care based on a 3D face model of an average woman
Andreja Rudolf, Sonja Šterman, Andrej Cupar, 2024, original scientific article

Abstract: Facial cosmetics moisturise the skin and remove sebum and impurities to maintain healthy skin. Face masks are available on the market in various forms such as gel, emulsion, sheet and paste. The textile sheet mask for facial care is used by all women, regardless of age. This study deals with 3D scanning of women’s faces to create an average female 3D face model for the development of a textile sheet mask design for facial care. Screened Poisson surface reconstruction was used to create an average female 3D face model whose dimensions correspond to average dimensions of scanned female faces. A reliable average 3D face model of the women studied was therefore used to develop a textile sheet mask for facial care. A comparison of average facial measurements with the measurements of randomly selected masks on the market revealed differences. Therefore, a design for a textile sheet mask was developed based on average facial measurements and the average 3D face model of a woman and by using virtual prototyping. The use of software for prototyping and simulating the appearance of clothing has also proven to be effective in the development of a textile product such as a textile face mask. The developed pattern design of the textile sheet mask with optimal dimensions and shape adapts to the contours of an average woman’s face. This fulfils all the requirements for wearing comfort of the textile sheet mask around the eyes, nose and lips during facial care and enables efficient transfer of the serum from the textile sheet mask to the skin.

Andreja Rudolf, Vanja Kolanovič, Monika Hudournik, Jasna Štampfer, Jakob Novak, Matej Borovec, Rok Belšak, 2024, original scientific article

Abstract: In this article, a study was conducted on the design of smart trousers to improve the thermal comfort of the legs of paraplegics. It was based on the survey of paraplegics about the thermoregulation of their legs in cold environments, the warming of the legs during and after outdoor activities, the type of clothing for outdoor activities and the need for smart heating clothing for the lower extremities. The skin surface temperatures on the legs of fully mobile people and paraplegics were measured in a neutral state to find out to which temperature the microclimate inside the trousers can be warmed and the smart trousers can be used safely. The survey of paraplegics was conducted nationwide and included sixty-one adult male and female subjects. Skin surface temperatures were measured at eight measurement points on the right and left leg and performed on eighteen participants. After evaluating all the results of this study, recommendations for the design of smart heating trousers were proposed. The results of this part of the research can provide designers with important information about the specific requirements for smart heating trousers and enable them to design and develop products that meet real needs and are safe for paraplegic wheelchair users. Furthermore, this work aims to raise awareness of the needs of wheelchair users that enable them to integrate into the social environment on an equal footing.

The effect of the difference in female body shapes on clothing fitting
Tadeja Penko, Andreja Rudolf, 2025, original scientific article

Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of body shapes of the studied group of women using different body shape classification methods. The objective was to investigate the fit of clothing for the average body shapes identified. Forty female participants from Slovenia, aged 20–30, were included in the analysis. Body shapes were classified using three methods: Visual assessment of body shape (VABS), female figure identification technique (FFIT), and body shape classification method (BSCM). For each classification method, ANOVA tests were performed to determine whether there were statistically significant differences in body measurements across the identified body shapes. A comparison of body shapes was carried out and also visualised by simulating 3D body shapes. The fit of clothing to body shapes was analysed with the help of virtual 3D prototyping. Four characteristic body shapes have been identified, namely triangle (pear, spoon), hourglass, rectangle and inverted triangle. The VABS method differs slightly from the other two (FFIT, BSCM), which give very similar results. When applying the FFIT and BSCM, the triangle body shape is the most representative, followed by the hourglass shape, the rectangle and the inverted triangle shape. Simulating the fit of the basic dress pattern design on 3D body shapes using the best match of dress size shows that the dress fits the hourglass shape best, while the fit for the other three shapes is inadequate. The latter indicates the need to make most of the garments for the triangle body shape and a corresponding number of garments for the hourglass and rectangle body shapes to ensure the correct fit of the garments.

Virtualna rekonstrukcija obleke Ane Plohl : diplomsko delo

Using digital technology for the sustainable preservation of clothing heritage: a virtual reconstruction of the 1848/49 uniform
Andreja Rudolf, Barbara Pučko, Maja Hren Brvar, Katarina Remic, 2024, original scientific article

Abstract: This work deals with the sustainable reconstruction of the uniform of the National Guard of Maribor from 1848/49 with the aim of developing the pattern design of the jacket and trousers of which it consists of and making a virtual replica of it. The original uniform of the Maribor National Guard, which can no longer be restored and/or conserved, is kept in the Maribor Regional Museum, Slovenia. The reconstruction of the pattern design of the jacket and trousers was based on historical sources, analyses, measurements and the decomposition of the uniform. The virtual reconstruction of the uniform pattern design was carried out using the Optitex PDS 3D V11 programme. The construction proportions of the uniform’s basic pattern design were analysed to determine the basic body dimensions of the wearer of the jacket and trousers and to create 3D body models of the wearers using the standard 3D body model of the software used. This made it possible to create an accurate “3D body model–clothing” system that realistically represents the virtual replica of the uniform. The results of this research help to preserve, understand and explore the cultural heritage of clothing in a sustainable way and make it accessible to the public.
